My main interest has been in the Confederate Section of Old City Cemetery here in Lynchburg. With there being more than 2,200 soldiers resting there from all of the states of the Confederacy, the labor of love has taken quite some time. So many of these men left home to never be heard from again. I am often times humbled walking around in this section. The staggering number of young and old men whose families have no idea where they are. I get the greatest feeling of elation when a current family member finds one of these men and the circle is closed when they are back with family. I owe the greatest debt of gratitude for member LJH who has helped me numerous times in correctly identifying the men. With the Confederate Section fairly well covered, I have moved on to Presbyterian Cemetery here in town, as of 12/31/2016 with yet another new camera.|
*Please do not post death certificates on any of my memorials.*
If you are a family member to anyone of the memorials I have posted, I will not hesitate transferring the memorial over to your care. That is why I do this. All I ask is that you please use some tact when requesting a transfer or making a suggestion for an edit.
If you have a better quality photo of any grave marker than the ones I have posted on my memorials, please post it. If not, please don't post it. Thank you. I put a lot of effort into taking good quality photos. These last couple of years have been a learning experience, but I think I have got the hang of it, finally. I hope you don't mind my posting a photo to your memorial, even though you may already have one or more up. ***If you do not want my photo on your memorial, please let me know and I will remove it***. It is so very important to me to take a good quality photo as I want to make sure the info I put on a memorial is correct on the chance that a family member will find the information and be able to use it. I always spend a little extra time wiping off grass clippings or bird poop, but that is all. Sunny days are best for a good photo, morning shadows really make a stone pop. Photoshop is your friend as well :)

|Robert Mitchell Bailey||RE: James B Etheridge|
Thanks Darrell. James died of Cholera so I was thinking it was possible he was buried elsewhere other than Old City Cemetery. He did die in Lynchburg but most likely sent home like you mentioned. I'll dig more to find out where his resting place is. Thank you for passing on this information.

Thanks for catching that, Darryl. I've deleted the duplicate memorial. - Anne

Thank you so much for your efforts! How sad there are no markers. I'm thinking about checking into having markers done for their graves.
I greatly appreciate you going out & checking this out for me!

Would you be so kind as to post the photo you made on Douglas Frazier's page, 95868475, on his wife's page, 95869075?
I requested a photo for her and got a message back there was no record of her there...

You have a wonderful photo attached to Find A Grave Memorial# 15886515. Would you please remove that photo from that memorial page and add it to Find A Grave Memorial# 181250615 and her husband, Find A Grave Memorial# 181250530?
The William Thomas Francis that you took the photo for did not have a memorial so I have added that and am getting the children linked now as well. Thank you so much for all you do on find a grave.
|Gloria Tune||RE: Lizzie Irby|
Thanks very much for the transfer offer....I accept!
All of Lizzie's immediate family left Virginia for New Orleans where they are all buried. Her Irby ancestors were from Halifax County, so there are none in Lynchburg to link.
Her younger brother William Ratcliffe Irby became a prominent man in New Orleans, but had only one child.
Read about him here:

I so appreciate the transfer of little Lizzie's memorial and will take very good care of her!

Thank you for working so hard to take a good photograph of my ancestor. I cannot walk the cemeteries to do it for myself and I'm overjoyed when a contributor such as you offers his wares on Find a Grave.
