The Recording of a Cemetery|
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where other cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

I saw that you have been to the New Albany Cemetery in Mississippi and was wondering if you could look for Anne Beard she is the mother of Adlai Beard. He is one of the people that you have and he is buried in the New Albany Cemetery. His mom Anne Beard in her last years was living with him in the US 1850 census in Mississippi. So I thought that she would also be buried in the same Cemetery as him. She was born in about the year 1770 and her maiden name was Matthews. She died some where in the years 1860-1870. She is my fifth great grandmother and I was hoping if you could look in the New Albany Cemetery in Union, Mississippi for her? It is totally fine if you don't look for her. Also I understand that if you aren't in the area you do not have to look for her. But if you decide to look for her and you find her could you please take a picture of her gravestone. Also if you decide to look for her and can't find her there please tell me.
Sincerely and Thank you,

B. Talphase Ernandez is my 3X great-grandfather and was married to Ellen Catherine Reid when he was killed in the war. Their daughter, Cynthia Solie Ernandez, was my 2X great-grandmother. Do you have any additional information about this man you could share with me? Are you related to him?
Thanks! Cheryl Lynn Bryant
