My sources for making memorials are |
1. The old newspapers at Kentuckiana Digital Library Home
2. Lincoln County, Kentucky Genealogy
3. Rootsweb Presents Kentucky Death Records
4. Lincoln County, Kentucky Tombstone Inscriptions & 1850 Census by Shirley Dunn
(Memorials have been made for everyone listed in this book except for a few that had no death dates)
5. Bicentennial History of Waynesburg, Kentucky and Southern Lincoln County (Memorials have been made for everyone listed in this book except for a few that had no death dates)
6. Pulaski County KY Cemetery Records, 3 vols.
I include as much information on the memorials that I can find so others that are searching can determine if it is the correct person they are looking for. A memorial with name, birth & death dates isn't always enough information to determine if it's the right person you are looking for. Some birth dates I have taken from the age of a person in their obituary which isn't always correct and just because dates are written in stone doesn't always mean they are correct either. I have come across some obituaries that gives a different burial location than the tombstone inscription books or the cemeteries listed at Lincoln County Genealogy.
~~~~The newspaper images at Kentuckiana Digital Library are in the public domain and can be used on Find A Grave. They ask that credit be given to the Kentucky Digital Library as the source for the images. For those who want to use these newspapers go to Kentuckiana Digital Library Home and click on newspapers. ~~~
For the people that think you need a picture of the tombstone for every memorial - not everyone has a tombstone and this is not Find A "Tombstone." Sometimes the only way to Find A "Grave" is from an obituary. Many tombstones have been removed from cemeteries that were on farmland because the land was later used for farming and tombstones have been damaged or destroyed by farm animals and people. Some old cemeteries have been bulldozed so the land can be used for something else. I even read about a woman that removed a tombstone from one cemetery and put it in another cemetery. This is one of the reasons why I try to do as much research as I can on the memorials I make. Many contributors require proof of relationship before links are made. I consider birth, marriage, obituaries and family relationships that are included on my memorials as proof of relationship.
I am only notified when photo requests for tombstone pictures are fulfilled but not when others are added to the memorials and I "really appreciate" all of them BUT if they can't be read because they are covered with dirt, grass & leaves they are of little use. Please take the time to clean the bird poop, dirt, leaves & grass off so the stone can be presentable.
If you would remove the Estes Cemetery sign from A.J. Cox page, I could add his grave marker. It was lying on ground,turned it over, took photo. I would like to add it to Find A Grave. Estes cem. Records.my email is: firstname.lastname@example.org
Isabella martin is buried here:
I was searching for some family graves. I took a few photos. Added to some of your pages. I hope you enjoy the results. The only way they can be read in some cases, is filing them with shaving cream, removing excess.
|Sheila Mobley||Sr. Susan Shain Murray, Shaker Cemetery, Mercer Co., KY|
Greetings. If you don't mind and are unrelated yourself, would you be willing to transfer Susan Murray's memorial to me? I am related to the Shain and Pendergrass/Pendergast families and also hold Cynthia Shain's memorial in Shaker Cemetery. Cynthia is a sister of Susan Shain Murray's. I appreciate your consideration of my request.
Hi Joyce, thank you for all you do. I see your name often on the Carters Findagraves. And very much apreciate your grave photos and writeups. I have a 3-4 cousin John Tinsley Carter. And wondered if you are related to him. He descends from the Lincoln Carters back to Thomas Carter, via John "Jack Carter", which i beleive is son of Peter Carter/Mary ann Ellis, as do I from the Peter Carter of Amherst sons(Charles, Peter W, Jesse, Edward(my direct), and Solomon. We may have communicated in the past but i cant remember the content. Anyways, Im on the hunt for all Carters dating to Capt Thomas Carter that lived or stopped by Lincoln County
We were finally able to get the tombstone for him - furnished by the VA. I think I already told you this. As soon as we set a date for the Dedication, I will let you know. My grand-daughter is going to play "Taps" on her trombone.
|Scott Stone||John Thomas Stone Grave|
My name is Scott Stone and I'm a relation of John Thomas Stone who is buried at Horton Graveyard in Lincoln County.
I live in Kansas and was hoping to take a road trip to Kentucky this summer to see some of my family's graves. Do you have directions to this particular graveyard? I would surely appreciate it if you could pass them on to me.
Thank you so much!
Hi Ms. Tinsley: I just came across something that read "It is believed that Eleanor was full-blooded Cherokee." I can't find any evidence of this. Have you ever heard of it? Thank you for your time! All the best, Lorna
