Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a local historian in Rapid City SD, I specialize in finding where people are buried, I have many readings of cemeteries in Western South Dakota I hope post them on this site.
I have a vast number of cemetery readings and obituaries that I am putting on site, I also am a volunteer to look up obits for people, please contact me if you need help in the Rapid City area.
I don't go too far to do pictures, I don't go to Fall River County to do pictures too far away, some places in Pennington are too far away.
I consider myself a scribe of the cemeteries, they are waiting for family , friends or whoever knows about the person and can do a bio to take edit control of them from me. I do not hoard memorials and I am more than willing to transfer to people who ask.
Don't put obits up where pictures should be, ask me to transfer so you can do the memorial the right way, only so many pictures can go up and using an obit that way is wrong!
Please, please just send your number on edit to ask for transfer that is the only way I want to do it, it so much easier that way.
If anyone has memorials in South Dakota they can no longer manage, please consider transferring them to me, I would be glad to have them.
My husband died in Sept and I am finally getting back to work on memorials and anything else that I can do.

RE: Harrison E Baird in Keystone Cemetery
Thank you again for the suggestion. She was actually in my family tree. I think the town may be wrong and she was married 3 times. I didn't recall all of the names, nor did I expect the nickname "Katie" as her previous nickname was "Kittie" for Keturah.

In any case, I found her, with your help. Thank you so much!

Best wishes,
Jennifer

RE: It is in SD Deaths
I wonder if there's anything to show she's buried there.

Thanks so much for your quick response. I do have the ability to check those and will work down that path. Thank you for the suggestions. Yes, I think she is likely dead, too. Strangely that makes it all a bit easier.

Best regards,
Jennifer

Harrison E Baird in Keystone Cemetery
Hi Ellen,

First, thank you so much for all the work you have done. I have only photographed a very small number of headstones, and while it is so fulfilling, it is really time consuming. I really appreciate your efforts. I will be traveling to SD this summer, from CA, and because of your work I will be able to see the graves of my great-great-grandparents and family. Thank you!

I have a question regarding the obituary on Harrison Edward Baird's page. It is a bit lengthy, but toward the bottom it says, "He (Harrison) is survived by his widow, a daughter Nellie: Mrs March Watson, Keystone, a son Carl Baird of Folsom SD, a stepson Harry Baird of Seattle WA and Katie Swain of Altadena CA."

The son, Carl Baird, is my great-grandfather. The others listed as survivors are his sister and half-brother, but I have NO idea who Katie Swain would be. We actually live near Altadena CA, so I would love to be able to track this down if possible. While I don't imagine you know who Katie Swain is either, I don't suppose you know where you got this information so that I could go back to that and do some further research, do you?

I would appreciate any information that you might have.

Thank you again for all of your efforts!

Best wishes,
Jennifer

RE: Not sure
Please hold off. I just found out that the original cemetery was in the town of Sorum which is in Perkins County, SD. In the 1960's they moved the graves to a remote area but not far away in Harding County. This summer I hope to have an older fellow down there show me where the graves are now and hope to get photos of each remaining grave. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for your findagrave contributions.

Lucille V. Clark Egly
Ellen,
I'm going through Hemingford Nebraska Cemetery records and found a duplicate of your Find A Grave Memorial# 156824900, Lucille V. Clark Egly. (She was a Hemingford graduate and her parents and brothers are buried here).

6 days before you posted the memorial, which is more complete with an obituary, Beth posted Find A Grave Memorial# 156606859.

If you could add your information to her memorial or contact her to transfer it to you, it would prevent having two memorials for Lucille.

Thanks for all your work!

Thank you!
THANK YOU for adding all of the great Memorial pages! And as far as duplicates, I totally understand how it happens. With all of us working together, we get it all done one way or another. Have a great day Ellen.

RE: And Calvary South Lead
Originally South Lead Cemetery was two cemeteries that adjoined each other. There was the Protestant section under the direction of the South Lead Cemetery Association and next to it Calvary Cemetery, administered by the Catholic Church. About 1910 or so both were turned over to the City of Lead and it was all simply called South Lead Cemetery, although for years newspapers still continued to refer to the Catholic section as Calvary.
