Thank you for doing such a great job on the website. We are doing our family tree and we are having trouble finding my great-grandfather's father. My great-grandfather is John Granville Shanholtzer. His mother is Martha Poland, daughter of Amos and Mary Poland. I have found records that state his mom's name only, but no father's name. No one in the family knows the name of his father either. My grandmother (his daughter, Gustava Belle Shanholzer French, has long since passed, but it was never discussed it seems. We did know that she married someone named Blackburn at some point and I have found that to be Thomas Blackburn of Rock Oak. If you could help fill in some of the blanks, we would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!! And again, thank you for all the photos and images! It is greatly appreciated!

I see you entered the information on my Grandfather named above. I added two pictures that go along with the stone you added. I purchased this in 1987 when he passed. I am Pamela Ann Wright his granddaughter. I was interested in understanding where the spouse name came from? The only spouse I knew was Goldie Cromwell Married name from Norlfolk VA.
MY GRAN-MOTHER WAS SUSAN LOUISA BOTT THAT MARRIED JOHN ALEXANDER HINES AND IS BURIED IN THE PINE GROVE CEM IN NEEDMORE. SHE HAD ONE MORE CHILD THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDED. HER NAME WAS VIOLA MAY HINES, 1901-1970. SHE NEVER MARRIED. MY GRAN-PARENTS WERE JOHN AND SUSAN BOTT, HINES. THANKS CAROL WILSON

Another Find A Grave member suggested I contact you as she states you are quite familiar with the area. Below is the msg I sent her that she responded to:
I am trying to solve KISNER family riddle and looking at possible allied families. Per this book http://www.tarvinfamily.org/cacapon.php re: Brethern in The Cacapon Settlement [excerpt p. 65] "The will of Barbara Cheshire, probated on Oct. 19, 1820 reveals additional relationships. It names eight children: 1) Uriah....7) Sarah Kisner....." probably in Hampshire Co, (W)Va.
I would like to know if you have any info on this Sarah (Cheshire) Kisner and her family & ancestors?
I know there was Jacob & wife Hannah (__) Kisner in the area, as they also are mentioned in this extract (additionally, I have other documents regards this Jacob Kisner). In 1850 census, Jacob appears to be a widower and enumerated with him is an Ashford Kisner b. c. 1828 who is the real focus of my research.
Hoping you can help. You may contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!

I am related to Mary Ruckman Poland, Richard Henry Poland's second wife. Apparently, they had at least one child, Elisha Poland, born 1886(?). Whatever happened to Elisha, and also, any information about Mary Ruckman Poland's death?
Thanks so much for all of your contributions to Find-A-Grave!
Do you have any info on Amos Poland's wife, Louisa Rogers? She was the dau. of Aaron Rogers and Cheressa Peters of Hampshire Co. She was mentioned in Aaron Rogers' will as Lewiza Polin.

Believe date of birth would be 1838 and not 1938?

Hello and thank you for your hard work on Find A Grave. We are researching the Poland family in the general area of North River, Hampshire, WV. We are especially interested in information regarding two sisters, Martha b. abt. 1802 and Elizabeth b. abt. 1805 who were daughters of Samuel Poland b. abt. 1780. The two Poland sisters married two Jones brothers (Jeptha and William T) abt. 1820-1830 and moved to Marion/Monongalia WV and eventually to Iowa and their father is believed to have moved to Ohio or beyond. What we hope to discover via find-a-grave are other members of the Poland family that would likely be siblings or cousins to our two Poland sisters and are buried in Hampshire area. We have discovered some possibilities - such as Peter Poland b. 1806 d. 1862, but we can make no positive connection. Our research is a work in progress and subject to change as we find more information but at this point the above is pretty strongly accurate. Thank you.
