RE: John Edward Young, III
Thank you so much! John Young Jr died many years ago - 1964. Mary Holland Young died in 1999 and I was able to find her obit on-line. That's how my quest started. John III's obit was very interesting - mirrored his brother Jim in many ways - military and law enforcement. Can't help but wonder if that came from their father - John Jr. Appreciate your help.

I am not related but was very close friends with his brother - Jim Young. He was the best man at our wedding. I was trying to locate his parents on Find A Grave and in California records and in the process found his brother. I was not able to locate the parents. They lived in the same area

Hi Dayle:

I copied the above in case you had misplaced the information for these folks, and my apologies that I have not responded to your kind offer to send whatever you have for them. It would be great to have whatever you have uncovered for these folks, even though they are a bit far out on the limbs of the tree. I put in everyone I can find, as you can see.

In the meantime, I have copied the headstone you found and photographed for these people, (he was my fathers first cousin, his mother being my grandfathers sister). This branch of our family has long been lost to us and finding them is like looking for the proverbial needle. Thank you so much for this photo; I have uploaded it to my Ancestry tree and given you credit for the picture.

I show his wife, Jessie Irene, with a maiden name of Hudson, but I do not show where I got that from and on checking, cannot find where I got it.

If you have additional information, please send it along, I will be most grateful.

RE: Barney Johnston
Hello Karla,

Thanks for contacting me. I would be grateful for any info on Barney. This is what I have on him:

Barney was my Paternal 3x Great Grandfather. He was born somewhere in New York in 1805. He married Sarah Phelps in Rives Junction, Michigan September 7, 1842. He was 37. In 1850 they lived in Onondaga (Ingham County) Michigan. They had three children at the time: Yale 5 yrs, Theodore 3 yrs, and Asa 1 yr (Asa was my 2x Great Grandfather who served in the Civil War). The fourth child, Otto, was born in June of 1852. Barney owned 160 acres in Michigan and was a farmer. The story goes that Barney left the family in 1850 for the Gold Rush. He was supposedly never heard from again. I can't help but wonder about the last child, Otto. He wold have had to have been home in September of 1851 because of when Otto was born (unless Otto is not truly Barney’s child).

I'm not sure how accurate all of this is, but it mostly came from Ancestry.

Thanks!

Thank you so much; it would be great to have additional information for the McKay family, and to have photos of the headstones if there are any.
Since I live in Ontario, Canada, it is highly unlikely I will get to California very soon to get them myself.
Many thanks for what you do.
Patricia
