Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a Mother of five, a third order Franciscan Sister, and a retired science teacher living in Ludington, Mason County, Michigan.

I have just finished photographing Rickey Cemetery, Amber Township. I apologize for the quality of the photos, many of its stones are not readable. Also it got very cold and started raining. Normally I like walking in the rain, but this was cold and you can tell by chopped off photos. I will try to get back when I can.

I will continue to transcribe and clip old newspaper death notices from the Ludington Daily News archives. I am creating a digital file of these for the local library and am adding them on this site for your personal - family use, feel free to copy my work for that purpose.
Hope it helps.

By the way, I am very happy to transfer memorials that are not of my family. Of course if they are closer related to you, yes. The memorials should be kept by family.

Sandi

Hi Sandi,

I used your info to work up a short bio for Dolores. Let me know if you would like to add anything. I'm also happy to transfer if you would like.

Robert DeVowe
RE: your name
Hi Sandi

The last syllable is pronounced Vo with a hard o.
I descend from Michael Deveaux who arrived in Nova Scotia in the late 1600's. When the English, in the 1750's expelled the French, my line (DeVeau)ended up in Quebec. Mid 1800's (Devoe)NY then Michigan. Spelling change to DeVowe by one generation of kids because a teacher told them that is how they should be spelling the name. The family was living in a area with a lot of Dutch, and may have had a Dutch teacher, that may be why the "w". Just a thought.

Thanks

Minerva (Hammond) Harris
Hello Sandi,

I mistakenly entered a duplicate of Minerva's memorial. I have deleted mine. I am not closely related. I believe the relationship is with my husband's family.

Thank you for pointing this out. And thank you for being a member of Find A Grave.

Sincerely,

Ruth Jaynes

Section QQQ in Lakeview Cemtery
I looked up someone and their burial listing in lakeview is 03-QQQ-09-14. I thought the second number was the section number but in this case are they in section 3 or section 9 then ?

Good morning. I transferred Norman and Fred to your care. I have not come across Epenetus and Hepsibah (love those names), even check death certificates for hillsdale county. Good luck with your search. RLE

Arthur Loomis (1858-1905), Brookside Cemetery, Scottville, MI
Sandi:
Thank you very much for the transfer.

Interestingly, I just got off the phone with the Brookside Cemetery office person in Scottville. "Debbie" double-checked their records but couldn't find an Arthur Loomis as being buried there. She did find a Loomis with an illegible first name written in their old record book. This may or may not be Arthur; they said they will attempt to go out to the Brookside Cemetery to see if there is a gravestone. I myself don't believe that there is a gravestone for Arthur but we'll wait and see.
Thanks again for the transfer.
-Joe S.

PS: Where did you find the news clipping for Arthur Loomis? I used to use Google newspaper archives several years ago but Google later disabled almost all of it. I subscribe to Newspapers.com but they only have the Ludington Daily News from 1930 to 1977.

Arthur Loomis (1858-1905), Brookside Cemetery, Scottville, MI
In April 2013, you created a memorial (#108239090) for Arthur Loomis in the Brookside Cemetery. Arthur's father, Elhanan W. Loomis, was the second husband of my GG GM Emma (Littlefield) Bishop/Loomis (1846-1915). She is also buried in the Brookside Cemetery.
I called the Brookside Cemetery office this morning to request the location of Arthur Loomis' grave but was told that he is not in their records.
Do you recall where in the Brookside Cemetery you saw Arthur Loomis' grave? Or did you create his memorial based on a death certificate or other type of paper record?
Also, please know that I checked the cemetery database in the USGenWeb for Mason County and found that Arthur Loomis is not listed there either. The database lists only two Loomis': Emma Loomis (1846-1915) and Loraine (misspelled as Oraine) Loomis (1897-1903). Loraine was a niece of Elhanan W. Loomis.

BTW: I would appreciate it very much if you transfer Arthur Loomis FG memorial to me (47237252). Eventually the mystery of his grave location will be resolved.

Thanks for your assistance.
-Joe S.
