Found Old Taylor Cemetery
Grayson County, KY

The approximate address of Old Taylor Cemetery is: 547 Sadler Road. A wonderful library researcher named Bettie Arndell went out and searched for it until she found it. The cemetery sits back from the road, and there is no direct street access at this time. You have to walk through tall weeds to reach it. The road marker is the mailbox for the house across the street of 546. Behind the mailbox, up on a slight hill is Old Taylor Cemetery. It has been abandoned, and not cared for in years. Any thoughts on who we could get to clean it up and add a sign?

Old Taylor Cemetery
Mr. Marks,
Do you know where Old Taylor Cemetery is? It may also be known as Taylor #1 Cemetery. According to the Grayson County Library researcher, it is 1/2 mile down Sadler Road (1133)
from 187 on the right on a hill.

I was in the area two weeks ago and could not find it. I have received the library information since then. There are supposedly 43 graves there, two of them being my great grandparents, Charles Wesley Nugent and Olivia Sapp Nugent. I remember the area being flat and populated with homes.

Can you confirm or deny the existence of a cemetery at the location the library gave me? I have tried every source I know to try, and have been unable to confirm information. I don't want to waste another trip to the area if it is not there.

In my search I have found the street address for this Taylor Cemetery is 2271 Shrewsbury Rd. in case you want to add it.

Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

RE: Fraize
Dear Mr Marks,

Thank you for making the changes I requested. It is greatly appreciated. I certainly understand your reluctance to change a memorial when you get several requests for edits.

Have you read Lee Gandee's piece, "Oath of Vengance"?...It chronicles the basis for Jesse & Elias Hughes' hatred of the Indians.

RE: James Stanley Gandee
That's a new one on me... I heard about her fighting of a pack of hungry wolves, killing several of them, but never a story about her killing a person, let alone one of her grandsons. My paternal grandmother seemed to know all the family lore, and loved to talk about it till she bored you to death, but she never made mention of a story like that. If you ever find any confirmation or further details about that story, I'd be grateful if you'd pass it along to me. I'll do the same for you.

RE: James Stanley Gandee
Hi Cuz... I was just going by the records that James Stanley Gandee had written down in my grandfather's bible (He was James' grandson, Otmer Gandee Sr... Of course he was 93 at the time he wrote the name Leah, which means it might have been my grandma's error in transcribing his writing when she wrote the names down for me many years later. Either way, thanks for the information, it was nice hearing from you.
