Bio Photo (John C. Carter)

(Will be spending part of the summer in southwestern Maine).

Happy to photograph at any cemetery in the Tampa Bay, FL area! (or in the Lakes Region of SW Maine).

Born in Dover, DE, (to parents from NJ & WV), I lived in southern CA until age 12, & then in Raton, (a small town in N.E. New Mexico), which I consider my home town. I attended NM State Univ for 4 years (with a 1-yr exchange to Oregon State Univ), but did not complete a degree at that time, & later moved back to southern CA, settling in the Orange County area. After 10 yrs in the O.C., I moved to St. Petersburg, FL (Tampa Bay area) in 1990, & have been here ever since.

I have avidly worked on my family's genealogy since the age of 15 ... 43 years ago!

I am a 28-yr member (and former chapter registrar) of the SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) with 7 qualifying ancestors submitted (more to come!), a member of the SUVCW (Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War) with 10 qualifying ancestors or brothers of ancestors (more to come!), a member of the SVR (Sons of Veterans Reserve--affiliated with the SUVCW), a member of the S&DUSCT (Sons & Daughters of U.S. Colored Troops), a member of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians of New Jersey, and an associate member of the Lenape Indian Tribe of Delaware.

(Click on my profile pic above to read the story of the Civil War ancestor with whose headstone I'm posing).

I'm very proud that every single branch of my ancestry has been in America since at least pre-Revolutionary times.

Having taken numerous college courses over the years, I finally bit the bullet & enrolled in a program in 2003 to complete my degree, & graduated from Eckerd College (a local, private, liberal arts college) in May 2005 with a B.A. in Creative Writing.

Besides genealogy & writing, my other interests include: clock collecting, books, movies, photography, geocaching, the Civil War, the space program, many types of music, & visiting cemeteries!

Thanks to the creators of this site for doing such a great job!

Well hey there! Good to hear from you again! As always, you are very welcome to any memorials you want.

It's been a long hot summer, and I'm ready for some cooler fall weather. We're all well and happy otherwise.

Take care, and hope to hear from you again soon!

So sorry to have offended you ... I am a Coombs so these people are of interest to me too although I haven't traced them specifically to my line. Everything I send has backup material, but the edit process is not conducive to sending record info with the edit. They're your memorials so you handle them your way ... sorry to have inconvenienced you during your move between homes ... I won't bother you anymore.

RE: Bertha Coombs
John ... Roger ... I just punched in her name for a general search and found this obit info:

Obituary Details:

https://newspaperarchive.com/bertha-coombs-obituary-215073146/

Name: Bertha Coombs
Age at Death: 83 years, 0 months, 19 days
Birth Date: January 13, 1891

I don't have a subscription to the web site, but the basic info seems to confirm the 1974 death.

John

I found Social Security Death Index ... Bertha Coombs:
Birth 13 Jan 1891, Death Feb 1874 with a residence of Bridgeton, Cumberland, NJ ... 3 miles from her burial site.

13 Jan close to estimated birth in 1890.

Cheers,
Barry Coombs

I spent three hours there on Sunday--600 plus pictures to crop now. If there is a memorial I'll put the picture in, if not, then I'm going to have others add memorials. I appreciate your note:)

Memorial is transferred..I have transferred to you before and you know that if I had seen your request I would have already sent it to you. Much faster if you send me a message here.. I hate my email provider, and don't check often. Anytime you need a transfer of a family member, friend, or just someone you knew well, let me know here and it will be done.

RE: Kidd Family
Thank you for your response. I am so sorry I haven't responded back before now. Alot has happened in my family. Any ways,Mary Was married to Milfred Perry. But she first married my great grandfather Harry Hunley. They divorced when my grandpa Lloyd Max Hunley was just a young boy. About Bryant and Rebecca that is very odd. Cause I looked it up on her side of the family and it stated that Mr bowman took all the head stones off there Graves and used them for the filler of his back porch. Don't know if any of that I'd true. It also stated that he planted a corn and wheat or bean field where the cemetery used to be. But it was called the Oaks family cemetery. God Bless

RE: P.S.
Totally agree on the SSDI, also from experience! My step-mom's Aunt was in a DE nursing home and the son had her paperwork and checks sent to FL. Of course the SSDI showed last residence as FL and Mom was always visiting the Aunt in DE and she died in DE. So you and I are one up on people who want to disagree, but we know the TRUTH - lol. Have a super evening.

Thanks for his father's link. I did a lot of research on David today to make sure James was his father and added additional info to David's bio. I wonder if he originally deserted as his father died at Harper's Ferry.
