Bio Photo "In all of us, there is a hunger, marrow deep, to know our heritage - to know who we are and where we came from.

Without this enriching knowledge, we are left with a hollow yearning. No matter what our attainments in life, without the sure knowledge of our provenance, this yearning yields to an emptiness, a vacuum and the most disquieting loneliness."

RE: Powell Memorials
I am not from Clay county, but most of my ancestors came from there. No haven't done any DNA. Could you tell me how far you go back in this line? Who is your grandparents? I noticed your memorials didn't include Elisha and Elizabeth Powell. Thanks again for sharing all the information on here.

RE: Powell Memorials
Thanks so much for the quick reply. I didn't know they were family as your name was not displayed anywhere on the memorials. So this makes us family, what line do you go back to as these are my direct line. Thanks for posting all the information on here. Are you from Clay County?

RE: Matthew & Moses Martin in 2nd SC
John, thanks for getting back to me. I saw Matthew, Moses & John Martin's records all back to back at fold3 & all 3 in the 2nd SC Regiment which makes me think they were all related in some way (probably brothers). Siblings often enlisted together in the same regiment. I posted Matthew's muster rolls at his memorial btw.

Matthew & Moses Martin in 2nd SC
Hello again, I found Matthew Martin's muster rolls at fold3 (posted at findagrave) & also Moses Martin also in 2nd SC. How is he related to Matthew wonder? Were they brothers or father & son perhaps. Oh yes, also found William Martin in 2nd SC Rev. War. Thanks in advance.

RE: Matthew & Elias Martin @Harrington Cem.
Yes, I thought Moses Martin might be the father of Matthew & Elias. I have read that several times & came up with Moses Martin I, Moses Martin II, then Matthew & Elias, then Moses Martin III. Does that sound correct? Thanks for getting back to me so quickly on this. Have a great evening.

Matthew & Elias Martin @Harrington Cem.
Do you know who their parents were? Sounds like one of the several Moses Martin's could be their father. Elias named his son Moses Martin b. about 1780 & buried nearby at Allen-Shelley Cem. (My ggg thru his son Joseph Martin 1827-1895). Please share you thoughts. Thanks.

Hi John

I've been reading some of your comments on our Martin relatives, and found myself wishing we could have a family reunion for all the Stephen Martin and Sarah Touchstone descendents. There seems to be a lot of us.

Keep up the great work.
Kay

RE: Gholston
I would prefer to use email, if we can work that out. Too much info for this venu. I'm at rosewoodrecording and that's a dot com, and the name is othercstuff there. HA bots. take that! Drop me a line and we can exchange info. I think I also left you a second question on another memorial. I'm looking for the actual source material on some of this stuff. I'm SEEING it in postings, but I never see any reference to the documentation. I'm going to go through the Spots, VA early wills in the next couple of weeks, looking for something that might be substantial. It's the Pulliam line I'm actually chasing at the moment. Not really my line, but very much a part of the Abbeville neighborhood that is my research stomping ground.

This is Dabney Gholston. I have seen it claimed in a number of places that he is the son of Anthony of Spotsylvania, but I have never seen a single doc that proves this. Are you aware of any actual documentation of these family relationships? Is there a will for Anthony? This question is actually huge - because it can go a long way to proving the roots of a number of later Abbeville families I'm working with.
