THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN

Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where others cried
For loved ones whose lives are stilled.

Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.

Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.

Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.

Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.

Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.

Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

Transfer & thank you
Hello,
Thank you for your generosity in transferring:
Jane Walkinshaw McConaughy # 72396110
to my care.
With your help, I have successfully connected her with her parents, four of her 10 siblings, her husband and seven of her 10 children.
As I receive more information, I will be adding to Our shared memorial.
With sincerest appreciation,
Marcia

RE: Taylor Infants
I really wish our edits filtered through to the online directory, so that it got updated (and corrected) too. I've tried a number of times to photo markers that appear blank in the hope that something can be gleaned. I think I've only been successful 4 or 5 times. It's such a pity the original inscriptions cannot be brought out. But it's definitely nice to see the memorials with more complete info and more photos.

RE: Taylor Infants
Thanks for the link. It worked. Actually, one of my cousins does a lot of indexing there. Of late, on my own tree I've focused on DNA work, but it's slow going for a variety of reasons. Nevertheless, I've made some truly amazing progress on 3 branches of my tree that stubbornly refused to yield written records. But because it is so slow going, I like to use the "in-between" time to hopefully improve FG some. I live locally, so Santa Ana gets a lot of my attention lately. I do have to say that I think it's fascinating how many families have had such a long and multi-generational history in this area.

The Hoopers
Chris, Glad you were able to get the Hooper's photos as the list was growing long. The Cemetery has really cut the budget on headstone trimming and mowing. Many headstones are completely covered. Not many ground markers visible either. Leon

THANK YOU so very much for all the photographs that you contributed to Hooper Family memorials. The photographs for George Hooper #180122808, failed to download onto his memorial, so I place another photo request for your convenience.

With my heartfelt appreciation,
