Bio and Links
Bio Photo I worked as a police dispatcher for 37 years for the Centerville Police Department and Appanoose County Sheriff's Office in Iowa, retiring in 2003. I have always been interested in local history and cemeteries. I have been researching my family history for 30 years. I am President of the Appanoose County Genealogical Society and Chairman of the Appanoose County Pioneer Cemeteries Commission. I have researched the people of the Centerville Police Department and Appanoose County Sheriff 's Office; Centerville Mayor's; Coal mining deaths in Appanoose County; Civil War soldiers buried in Centerville's Oakland Cemetery. Also African-Americans buried in Appanoose County. I am presently researching the persons buried in the Appanoose County Farm Cemetery.

RE: Your Profile Picture
Hi Gary;
Hey, I like this Profile Picture VERY well. The other picture, besides being upside down, it was too small. Was this Oakland Cemetery?

Your Profile Picture
Hi Gary;
I like your Profile Picture. I think you have been upside down long enough, you may pass out, Don.

RE: Jane Maxwell
Hello,
Unfortunately, I did not see a grave marker for her husband. There was an unmarked grave on one side of her plot.

I found name Judd on Hist. Soc. Cemetery List, Section 11 Row 1. Have not personally seen tombstone. Alberta

P.S. - listed his age as 45, no months or days.

Joseph Shafer Find A Grave 49411305
Gary, I believe your Joseph Shafer Find A Grave Memorial# 49411305 is a duplicate of Find A Grave Memorial# 14092569 created by Shelli Steedman in 2006.

Your birthdate is different but if you do the math of age at enlistment (28) in 1861 that would make his birth closer to 1833.

Thanks
Steve
