I am a native Californian. I went to school in Santa Rosa and married Vern Leete also from Santa Rosa. After being away for quite some time we returned to California and found the Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery in a mess. The weeds were thigh high because it had been abandoned. A group of teens from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints began rescuing the cemetery. Later that year the city included it in the "Hands Across the County" program. It took less then a year to give the cemetery the sense of dignity it deserved. Now it has natural beauty with its huge oaks and Vinca. Garbage was hauled away and gravel put on some of the graves. Walkways were cleared. Headstones were straightened and bleached. The pioneers of Santa Rosa are buried here and these young men and women understood the importance of honoring those that had established their fine city. |
In 1986 a young man named Adrian Seeser chose to list all the names in this cemetery for his Eagle Scout award. With his permission those names have now been added to this site in hopes it will help anybody that has family or friends they could not locate before.
It has been an honor to be a part of the reconciliation of this graveyard. It gives me confidence in the youth of our town. My hope is that you as a searcher will find comfort in what you find.

OMG You poor thing, I am so sorry these emails all went into my spam! Of course you can use them. If you need any others let me know and I'll get them taken. I enjoy preserving the Leete history. I added Find a Grave to my actual contacts so it will go right into my email. My email is rocklandwife at yahoo . com - Sometimes you can't send email destinations on this message box so I had to break it up this way.
Take care and sorry for the delay!

Please use the photo as you wish for your family.

Sorry, not related to Leetes.
|Grant W. Sullivan||Leet - Brown cousin|
I thought I had your husband in my database already, but it turns out I don't, but still I'm pretty certain we are cousins -- just a bit more distant -- like 3rd, 1 or 2 times removed. If you send me the names of your husband's parents & grandparents, then I'll know for sure what the distance of the connection is.
Note: There are several variations in spelling. In the NY State Census of 1875, spelling was LEAT, later it became LEETE, like your husband, and the last E got dropped in the 20th century, such as with "Horace Lewis Leet" (Jr.), which is how I found you.
|Grant W. Sullivan||I'm your cousin-in-law|
I just found out thru Ancestry.com DNA that your husband and I are 3rd cousins. Our common ancestors are Hiram & 2) Mary (Weygant) Brown of Town of Lisle, NY.
Grant W. Sullivan, Jr., grandson of Harry Brown
2nd great-grandson of Hiram & Mary (Weygant)

It just occurrd to me by your last name Leete, that your husband might be a direct descendant of Pelatiah Leete, w/ the Cummings connection. If so, my site below has photos of Albert and his wife, his parents, her parents, news clippings, poetry written etc. Please let me know if this is a direct family connection.

Jeanie: It is not all my work - there are numerous other Litz descendents that have helped and supplied information - I try my best to gather and verify all infomation - on average each person represents 1-3 hours of research. If You are a direct descendent, I would be willing to transfer to You - BTW if there are missing people that You can link into this growing tree of people - Please do and advise me.
Warm Regards - Tom Schoening (the scribe)
