I was born in Grand Junction, Colorado and have lived in this valley for over 61 years. My husband, Jack, was also born here. I have two wonderful children who are 5th generation Grand Junctionites. Genealogy is just one of my hobbies, but it is probably the most addicting one. I would love to take pictures of headstones for anyone in this area, as I know it can sometimes be a problem getting to an area where a relative lived. Feel free to contact me via e-mail with any request for this area. Also, please feel free to use any photos I take.

RE: Sallie M. Buford
If you do a search for this name on the "Wyuka Cementery Lincoln Ne " site you will find Sallie listed there. I do have the obit from the Lincoln newspaper and it states that burial was in Wyuka.

She is not buried in Yankee Hill cemetery.

Sallie M. Buford
I am wondering where you got the info that she is buried in Yankee Hill Cemetery in Lancaster Co Nebraska.
If you will look at the burials in Wyuka cemetery in Lancaster Co you will see she is listed. The newspaper article dated May 29 in The Courier says she was buried in Wyuka.

RE: Peter Doran
Hi Lin-I wish I had a better answer for you. It does not list Sarah Moore as his wife on his headstone. I do see that there is an Ancestry tree out there with Sarah Moore as Peter's wife but I usually need more proof than that to list it like the marriage or death records listing a spouse. Right now I don't find any marriage records and Peter's death record doesn't list his wife's name. I'm not sure what made me add Sarah as his wife. If I figure out where I came up with the connection I'll let you know. Sorry....Mary

RE: Nellie E. Joy
Re the Nellie at Fairmount. I'm pretty sure that Joy is her second married name and not her maiden name. So if she is related to your Nellie Joy, it would probably be through marriage.

RE: Nellie E. Joy
Well, that is interesting! I've removed the parent links from the Nellie Joy at Fairmount and then tried to research more about her and really couldn't find anything. The memorial was originally created using the Fairmount Sexton Records at the Denver Public Library. You can find an online version here:

At the time that I made the memorial, that is all the information I had. The tombstone photo and the links were contributed by others.

She is listed in the sexton records as Nellie E. Joy. That means to me that her surname at the time of her death was Joy. Seeing that the husband on the tombstone, George Sheldon Peabody, died in 1893, I am guessing that his wife, Nellie, remarried after his death. Although I could not find a record of a Nellie Peabody marrying someone with the surname Joy.

It is a puzzle. Sorry I can't be of more definitive help. Please let me know if you find anything further. In the meantime, I am going to put a carefully worded note on the memorial.

RE: Photo Thank You and Permission to Use
Lin, It's fine with me to use the photo of Dorcas White's headstone, although I did not take the picture myself. I see that I credited the photo to "M. North" although I'm afraid I've forgotten now where I found it. I would recommend adding the same credit if you use the photo online.
