|Bio and Links|
When I joined Find a Grave it was a good website where a person could find and connect to their past without having to pay an annual fee. As I searched other volunteers home pages, I would read in their bios how they too expressed their support for the website and how it helped them to find a love one. On certain occasions though, I would come across a bio in which the volunteer didn't write a bio about themselves, but they expressed anger about the neglect of other individuals who didn't abide by the website rules. As I continued to read the bio, I wondered why they would choose to express their anger and frustration rather than write something good about themselves. Well after many years of contributing memorials, photos, and flowers, I know now why they wrote those angry words. I have come to realize that when a website offers free membership, it opens the door to every idiot who has nothing better to do than to create frustration and tension for other people. If these trouble causing individuals were forced to pay an annual fee, I believe they would think twice about wasting their money on creating aggravation for other individuals. I am changing my policy, and will be a STRICT keeper of the Find a Grave Rules. This means: Transfer requests should be for direct relatives within four generations. This would be YOUR siblings, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. If you don't understand this, then go find someone who does understand this statement and can explain it to you. There are many of my relatives memorials that I don't manage and I am quite happy to leave them in the hands of other people. If there is something I want added to the memorial I click the EDIT tab and make my request. This is the correct, by the rules, way for this website. If this rule is not followed, then when I receive your email/request, I will list it as spam and it will be deleted.|
Another rule I have found that volunteers are breaking is the photo copyright rule. You CANNOT claim a photo you DID NOT TAKE. I have found many of my photos being copied and pasted on other memorials. This is a serious rule infraction. REMEMBER, IF YOU DIDN'T TAKE THE PICTURE.....DON'T TAKE CREDIT FOR THE PICTURE! Ask for permission.
Finally, Be accurate with your information. When photo volunteers go out to fill a photo request, they are taking their time and money to get you that photo. Don't just put someone in a cemetery because it seems like the right one. Take the time to do some research and get confirmation before you list a memorial. Be Considerate!
There are certain individuals out there (and you know who your are) who have caused me to take these measures and unfortunately for the innocent, I'm sorry but things have changed.

|Faith Collins||Memorial #36493928 Van Dorah Collier Hay|
The above referenced Memorial is listed as Van Dorah Collier Hay. The tombstone is worn so I was not able to read it clearly. However, I believe this is my Great Great Grandfather's daughter Vandora Collins Hay. Van's father was William M. Collins -Memorial 24180909-Bethesda United Medthodist Church Cemetery. Her spouse James H. Hay (Memorial #38056433) is also buried at Bethesda.
Per family papers William M. Collins had a daughter named Vandora. Van Dorah's son Carl has the middle name Collins (Memorial #36429891). I did not want to request an edit, due to the "Collier" listed in her name. Do you know if Collier is listed on the tombstone or did it come from a document? I read your lengthy note on people not following the rules, so if I have broken a rule by writing this note, I apologize.

I live on Hilton Head Island and volunteer at the Heritage Library. We are currently gathering information on the people buried at Zion Chapel of Ease Cemetery (Findagrave still calls it Baynard Tomb. I have to try to get that fixed because Baynard's Tomb is actually a mausoleum in Chapel of Ease Cemetery)
Anyway, the real reason I'm writing is that John M. Smith # 20930498 is no longer interred there. I think this poor guy has been moved FOUR times!
Most military graves are at the Beaufort National Cemetery. Johnís shaft-grave was originally among the thickets along the road to Fort Walker on Hilton Head. It was then moved to Government Cemetery on Union Cemetery Road on Hilton Head. Then re-located at the Zion Chapel of Ease Cemetery at the corner of US 278 and Mathews Drive. Sometime within the last few years it was moved again to Government Cemetery. His tombstone reads:
In memory of
John M. Smith
Born September 9, 1842
Died at Hilton Head, South Carolina
June 3, 1865
It is not through age that I lie.
So, friends, prepare yourselves to die.
Repent in time, make no delay.
I in my youth was called away.
Erected by his fellow workmen
Of the Quartermaster Department
I am trying to research this soldier, but with a name of John Smith, it hasn't been easy. All I know is that he is no longer at Chapel of Ease Cemetery. I saw his tomb monument Friday the 5th at Government Cemetery. If you can move him there, that would be great. I'll keep you informed if I can find his bio.
Rick on HHI.
|Alice M. Henneberry||Harriett Brown Brizzee|
I just found Harriett's death certificate. It states that her father was Judson Brown, born in Painted Post, NY. Just thought you may wish to correct this for her on Find A Grave. Thank you in advance. Alice M. Henneberry

|Patsy||Thomas Bobbitt, Sr|
He is on 1850 census in Twiggs County, GA. The family used the same names, so it is confusing, but Thomas, the son of Drury, Sr Bobbitt of NC, died in GA. Other sons of Drury moved west rather than south and named sons Thomas. Prior generations used Thomas. There are living direct male descendants of Thomas and Louise still in GA. DNA would be nice.
Thomas Bobbitt's sons, including Thomas, Jr appear on the census. So we know Thomas, born in Warren County, NC about 1776, and Louise remained in GA and were alive in 1850 living next to son James Bobbitt and family. I see no evidence he would have been buried out of GA. The old cemetery on family property may not exist.
Our family is Drury Sr, Thomas, James, Felix and James 1885-1950. James had males and their sons and grandsons are still in GA. We decend from a daughter of James and Vicky Bobbitt and remain in GA. I would appreciate help separating our Thomas from this grave if anyone has a better idea.

in Jefferson County, Georgia. I have a death certificate for Phillip Harloam, an infant, showing his burial in this cemetery but there are no Harloam graves listed there on Find A Grave. If you see this marker, please write. Thank you.
