I am now a ninety three year old mother, grandmother, gr-grandmother, and a gr-gr-grandmother. On my 80th birthday my grandkids were ask to share what they remember about grandma. Because I realized they didn't know much about their ancestors, I decided to write down what I remembered of the stories that were told to me as I was growing up. That lead me to contact the Sequoia Genealogical Society. |
Volunteers taught me how to find more than 100 years of local family history from the Tulare City Libraries Genealogical Collection.
One volunteer, a retired school teacher taught me, fourth grade style, how to search the Internet on the computer. That year my daughter and grand children gave me a computer for Christmas, and I was off and flying and now I added Find a Grave to my activities.
I am now a self appointed family historian who has been doing research on my own extended family, and that of my friends,
Seen on another contributor's profile. I couldn't agree more.
We are the chosen. In each family, there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts, but instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the storytellers of the tribe.
I treat a memorial just like it were the actual cemetery, and I leave a flower or acknowledgment. When you visit one of my memorials please leave a flower. It is not necessary for you to say that you are a relation, but I appreciate it when you do.
Because of my age I would like to transfer some of my memorials. For many of them, I am not a direct descendant, and I prefer to transfer to direct descendants. There are a few occasions where I will make an exception. I will not make any transfers unless you leave a flower and a note.

OK, neat. You done good. Thanks.
Could you put in a request for pics of the new pages you just made for Linda Hirst, and Canute Steenson and I will go back out there and clean up their stones and get good pictures of them for their pages.
I will find Pearl's grave too when I am there.
According to a file I found on Ancestry.com Pearl's husband was Walter Goulet.
Walter is in Willamette National Cemetery.
His Find A Grave #= 712648
I found a death story and funeral notice for Linda and a funeral notice for Canute also. They download from my library as full pages of the paper in pdf format and the notices are on the page in the funeral notice column which is nice because then you get the name of the paper and page number and all that good stuff for documentation. I can email them to you if you want them.
Your email address is on your profile page.
|Nathan Haines||Roy Martin Steenson|
You put in a request for pictures of Roy Martin Steenson's grave. You have his page showing that he is in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.
Guess what? He is not in Lincoln Memorial. He is buried near his wife Maggie in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Gresham, OR.
I put the pictures I took in the cemetery in Gresham today and put them on Roy's page.
Could you change Roy's page so it shows he is in Forest Lawn and not in Lincoln Memorial? Do you know how to do that? If not let me know and I will explain how to do it.
If you click on the area shot pictures you will see the captions I added to the pictures.
Roy and Maggie's son Canute Steenson 1915-1958 is buried in the same Lot as they are in.
There is a Linda Hirst buried between Roy and Maggie 1943-1955. Her funeral notice in the paper says she was the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Steenson meaning she was Roy and Maggie's granddaughter who tragically died in an auto accident in Prineville, OR. Roy must have had a daughter who married someone with the last name of Hirst, right?
Nobody has made pages on Find A Grave for Canute Steenson or Linda Hirst. Do you want to do that or do you want me to do it?
|MarilynGeniSeeker||Robert Hawkins 1610-1704|
Ms. DeCamp Hoffman: Was hoping there may be a possibility that Robert (who emigrated to Massachusetts in 1635 as a non-Puritan) is a descendant of Admiral Sir Richard Hawkins 1562-1622 (or of that Hawkins line). I am getting conflicting information. Thank you for your wonderful biographies and portraits on Find A Grave! Marilyn

Lovely getting your note to add dates for the Throckmortons. I have seen differing dates for their birth/death. Because I have I wanted to see if you have a source I could add to their memorial which I could do a bit more research on. Thanks ever so much.

Could you tell me where you got this pic that is on his grave? He is my great grandpa. Thanks
I have found the headstone of William Rowlands but a large bush is blocking his name, I will go back in a couple of days & trim it back & take the picture.
I did take one of his wife & added it to her memorial.
|Yankee Magnolia||McKeon Edits|
Thank you for the edits for Oliver and Jane McKeon. I have accepted all of them.
Ms. Audrey DeCamp Hoffman,
I appreciate your help linking Chambers B Hemphill
to his wife AND for posting the photo clipping. If this
is a memorial you wish, regardless of relation, just
say the word.
