I have been doing genealogical research since 1984. I retired from the Air Force in 1994. I recently got my Researcher ID Card for Maine Vital Records. I am a member of the Maine Old Cemeteries Association, the New England Historic Genealogical Society, and the Buckfield Historical Society. I am also Historian and Past Commander of John D. Long Post #58, American Legion, Buckfield, Maine. I am a son of Donald Mackay Cooper and Ruth Marcelyn Hersey.|
TOGUS NATIONAL CEMETERY
I am happy to help with volunteer photos for the Disabled Volunteer Soldiers from all over the country who lived at the Eastern Branch of the Old Soldiers Home who died there and were buried in Togus National Cemetery. I have gotten permission slips to take photos there since 2010. I research the soldiers I take gravestone photos of using my "Togus National Cemetery" family "tree" on ancestry.com to submit information from Togus admission records and use info from my photos to add gravestone tran scrip tions and co ordinates. It takes a while to do this, especially these days with slowdowns on the internet, so I am not able to gravestone photos of all names requested on alphabetical lists.
RETURN OF THE ARCHONS
Lately I have been having difficulty keeping up with edits on findagrave. I have never been a great typist, but I used to be able to type more than ONE WORD PER MINUTE! Like everyone else, I am only human and can make mistakes... but I have caught several edits from novices trying to change correct information to incorrect information. If we don't catch it within 21 days... it gets Accepted automatically. It would be nice if findagrave could add a category for edits "Edits that have been sent to me that were AUTOMATICALLY ACCEPTED"
I am going to have to start cutting back on Findagrave. Unfortunately, the only way to use Findagrave is by using the Internet... and that is getting harder and harder to do as it gets more and more cluttered, and takes longer and longer to do even the simplest things.
Often it cause my computer to "freeze up" so that I have to pull the plug and yank out the battery!
The Klingons have taken over the ship! Time to initiate the "auto-destruct sequence" and beam down to some log cabin somewhere and go back to reading books!

Transfer done, and no worries from this end. Happy to send them your way. Appreciate the offer of transfer, but unless you hope down to PA or NJ, probably not going to find my family. Was doing that myself this week. :)
I appreciate the info. you gave. It appears you have done a lot of research, as I have as well. First, I am not just a collector of memorials! These are my ancestors! I have not had the time to connect everyone yet via the links, but I am working on it. I have been a member of Ancestry.com for over 7 years. My connection to Randall Church is through his first wife Elizabeth Chase. They had a daughter Hulda Church (1803-?) who married Thomas Bragg (1798-1858). They had a son Thomas J. Bragg (1834-1864) who with Mary Rollins (1835-1913) had a daughter Harriet Bragg (1856-1916) who married Elmer H. Heald, Sr.(1883-1965) who was my great grandfather on my mother's line. You can follow my Church line on Ancestry.com under the Barnard Family Tree jbs300m. I hope this clears things up for you. I also have been trying to find his parents via Ancestry.com. Where did you get the info. on Gideon and Phebe Soule? Happy hunting!

I can add a newspaper mention of Randall as being the oldest man alive in town. The newspaper is from 1878. I also visit his grave from time to time.

Find a grave is new to me, so I don't know how to create or edit memorials. Just trying to post pictures from old albums passed down to me. The lady who created many of my families memorials in the old Cousins Island cemetery told me to go away instead of wanting to make corrections. Are the people who create memorials paid or volunteers? Either way,I wish that J.E. would take more pride in her work.

Happy to help :)

I'll try to delete he extra pics. My phone died in mid-upload and didn't have the delete feature. But I can probably do it from the full regular site. :)
|Susan||RE: Elvira Groves Brooks|
My goal is to put the pictures in this album to good use by updating the cemetery records. It saddens me to see how incomplete the records are at the Cousins Island cemetery. J.E. refused to to discuss updates.

I did. A full state of Maine seach for Della Groves and only found one. Her birthday does fit with the time period of the album.

I have a picture of a young women in an old family album. I am the 5th generation who has owned it. I am trying to update cemetery records in the comments section. Many memorials at the Cousins Island Cemetery were by J.E. I tried to contact her to update the nemorials. She told me to "go away"
