|Buffler Bill McAllister||RE: J.J. Phillips|
Hello Mister Anderson,
I don't get on my computer much anymore. I am somewhat disabled and it is difficult for me to get to where the computer is located.
About J.J. When I met him, he was getting on in years. Hard of hearing and so on. He was actually pretty grouchy most of the time. At least he was around me.
The subject of his Father never came up, in any conversation I ever had with him. J.J. (Jesse James) was not the kind of man you asked, "Was 'Bad Frank' Phillips your Father?" That was a sore spot with J.J. because he was a small child when his Father was shot. As 'Bad Frank' lay dying, J.J. could see him through the window but he was not allowed into where his Father was.
The reason I knew the old man was that my Aunt attended Church with him, in Pinsonfork, Kentucky. J.J. lived literally almost rock throwing distance from Pinsonfork. I think he lived in McAndrews, Kentucky, but it is only maybe a quarter mile from the Pinsonfork Post Office.
J.J. was not a large man, perhaps five feet six inches and of slight build. But I was just a big old kid at the time and I had enough respect for my elders to not aggravate them unnecessarily. I am sixty two now and J.J. has been dead for around thirty years, I believe.
I am truly sorry I was unable to give you any information on Frank Phillips, but I told you all I could remember about J.J.
I wish you well in your endeavor.
