Bio and Links
Bio Photo I trust we are thankful for the love of the departed, the sacrifice of patriots and the faith of God's people who have now gone to their reward. We pay respect to the dead because their life has touched ours and we are better because they lived. As we reflect on and remember the lives of those who are now dead, we are moved to... in turn... touch the lives of others in good ways.

I don't believe you have to be blood related to have ties. Most of the Memorials I manage are relatives - some very distant. If I manage one you have ties to and want to take care of, ask me for a transfer. I may ask you why you want the transfer but I will NOT ask you to prove anything to me. These Memorials are not owned by anyone nor should anyone feel an entitlement to them. We are simply stewards...

I have found most... people to be kind and reasonable...most... I've learned that greed, egos and personal agendas are qualities that do not win friends...qualities that don't impress me.

My wish is to honor those who have gone before us. Those who were loved...or not so loved, those who were someone's son or daughter; those who helped build this great land we have the privilege of living on during our life; those who so valiantly fought and served this Country so we may be free; and, those who lived on after the death of their loved one. If I can honor them, then I feel a sense of accomplishment...if not for the dead, then for future generations. My hope is that I have made a positive difference...

Genealogy is a passion of mine. Daddy and I used to walk the land and he began taking me to the old cemeteries where he knew so many of those who had passed. Then Mother and I would take a day to walk through the graves of her long ago relatives. I took along my ‘polaroid' camera snapping photos of many of the older graves never dreaming that I would one day post them on a wonderful "FREE" site known as Find A Grave.

May God Bless You and May God Bless the USA.

RE: Sam and Hazel Shanafelt
So now you have in turn made my morning! Interesting that we both have notes as to the association/relationship of our two families. Shanafelt was definitely a household name at Grandmother and Grandad's house. As you mention, the love and respect that they all had for each other. You don't hear or see this much anymore. So thankful that your family were such good people!

Sam and Hazel Shanafelt
Hello! I am the Granddaughter of Houston and Roberta Denning who lived in Bryson, Texas. I wanted to let you know that my Grandfather, Houston Denning, worked for Hazel Shanafelt. I am looking at notes typed up by my Mother, Mildred Ann Denning Harrison, that reads:

Sam and Hazel Shanafelt had a large ranching operation (4,700 acres) at Bryson and Jermyn, Texas. Sam was killed and Hazel asked Daddy to take care of the ranching operations. We had housing and a salary. Hazel covered all other expenses. Life was good.

I personally remember Grandmother and Grandad speaking so highly of Sam and Hazel. They truly were good people. I remember as a child riding in Grandad's truck and stopping by Hazel's home there in Bryson and picking up feed for her livestock and riding out to feed with my Grandad. What great memories!

Thought you might enjoy hearing this story!

RE: Saylor/Sailer
Oh yes, silly me now I remember it. I also have Snyder in my known family line. I was surprised to see another in this family but really, it's a pretty common name. I always thought Sailor would be easy, not! an occupation, the different spellings, sailor moon, soldiers and sailors memorials, etc.... Aye! Do you have any additional info on Peter and Barbara (Shanafelt) Saylor of Washington County, Maryland? I'm trying to find my connection to my William M. Sailor. who lived in Mechanicsburg, Florin, Mount Joy and Lancaster PA.

Hi potential cousin... really not sure yet but fyi, you should have some edits to process as I've been working on connecting this family group. Curious what note re: snyder were you talking about? When I make change requests I sometimes put temporary "flower" notes in so I don't loose data and then save those memorials to a working virtual folder. When I see an edit processed I can delete the note and remove the memorial from my folder. I've found unless I do that when researching an individual the time is wasted if the memorial holder chooses not to include the data or accept the change request and in this way, my attempt to provide data will live on a flower. I've never noticed it but are you saying as a memorial holder you can delete another contributors flowers? That could put a wrinkle in my strategy. Please let me know. Thanks!

I received your message- thank you. I normally transfer all the requests I receive, but Sisler is one of my direct family lines. If you want to link her to her parents you can do so through the edit tab which would be very much appreciated.

Again, sorry but this is one I'd rather hold onto being that it is in my family. I hope you understand.

Thank you!
Brian

Shanafelts
Hi,

I have transferred to you all four of the Shanafelts for which I had made memorials in North Shore Garden of Memories. They are Saylor, Pamela, Rita, and Alma.

Happy to help,

Colleen
