I live in the Carytown section of Richmond, Virginia, USA, an urban environment second to none. I grave the area of New Jersey to Georgia, looking for lost or forgotten cemeteries.|
And often while walking those cemeteries I'll see some neglected or damaged or sinking markers, so I tidy them up, and sometimes get more involved, then take a picture and post it, feeling like I might be their last best chance to be remembered for some future researcher. We all have the same purpose, we're all working for posterity, and I think this data base has become a number-one stop for any family history researcher.
I'm a U.S. Navy veteran, Vietnam era, duty aboard the USS Canopus AS-34. I raised a family, but lost my wife. I made a career in newspaper production, am now retired, and enjoy volunteer gravestone photography.
The best way I've found to get a readable gravestone photo is to redirect sunlight to create shadows in the carved surface.
One thing, I'd like to ask the community at large, is quit cropping photos... it makes a perfectly normal photo look a lot less attractive. Please post natural photos.
Anyone who wants to use my photos may do so, without any restriction, so help yourself. They have been posted here for you to use. And if you want a transfer, simply ask for it.

I may be able to get by Elmwood on Sunday, and I'll make an effort to get your requests done then. I'll be sure to get some long shots; I always photograph anyone close by who even might be a relative, so I'll upload everyone in the general area.
I've actually got block maps of the whole cemetery, so I can find the exact spot someone is buried before heading out - see this page -
Speeds up searching a lot! The Elmwood staff are very helpful.
No need to create requests if I find someone of yours while doing this for you, I'm happy to help, without needing the additional work on your part.

I added a new photo of Josephine's stone it says "Josephine Wife". Also added a photo John Baptista. There is definitely no stone. Many unmarked graves in this section. His plot is 9 plot in from the road and i made the assumption there are 4 lots per plot so aprox 36 stones or lots in from the road i took the photo. I counted twice. It's between Roberto Santiago and Eva St Germain.

Your very welcome, I'm glad I noticed your request on taking the picture without cropping it. I thank you, by seeing that I will try to check for those types of comments better in the future.

Thanks Rich for your quick reply. That is a great picture! Your photo skills made the stone very readable AND hot dog "from Co. Limerick"
Let me know if I can return the favor here in Baltimore.

Thank you for all those photos, can't believe you found them ALL. I want to put a few more photo requests into that cemetery next week, maybe you have time?

~ the Provosts buried in Enon Cemetery, Bullock County, Alabama, but was just passing on info that I'd found regarding the wives of William Franklin Provost (1821-1895) - Just my way of paying forward for all the help I'd received over the past decades of seeking help on my own family history research.
