I am a native New Mexican. Having lived in all 4 time zones, I currently reside in Northern California.

Re: memorial #145151354 for Otis Lee Johnston. He was my first cousin. His page on Find A Grave says his burial is unknown. He is buried next to his father, Carl Gene Johnston, memorial #106192746, in Lafayette Memorial Park, Fayetteville, NC. Thank you so much for adding their memorials on Find A Grave!

I knew that it would be a slim chance.
|James Richards||CPT Edwin Bacon|
CPT Bacon is not buried on Fort Bragg, he is buried on Fort Knox. :)
I photographed his headstone and created his memorial in FindaGrave a few years ago (see memorial #51611936). Tonight I discovered the problem at Fort Bragg, so I wrote them a note referring them to his memorial with the photo, to make sure they didn't doubt it I cited his death certificate (Ancestry.com) showing death and burial at Fort Knox. Apparently, he had a heart attack.
Hope that is good news for you! In my research, I also found that he enlisted in the Army on March 14, 1942. I think the ASU was an air scheduling unit, associated with the airfield on the post. They must not have lasted very long. I found only one reference to an ASU on the web: A book, Arming the Nation for War: Mobilization, Supply, and the American War Effort, page 250 - 251.

I just uploaded two photos in response to you photo request. The detail pic seems to be okay but I am not happy with the picture of the marker. I have no idea what happened. I took 100s of pics that day and this is the only problem I am aware of. The next time I am in Tunis (could be years), I will try to take a new pic. Feel free to open another photo request in case someone else does any work there. Paul

Looks like they are buried next to each other. I have sent a correction to the memorial owner on both.
Sounds like you are telling me that the family is familiar with the "2" graves. I am convinced he was buried in Potosi, close to his parents. I am getting more convinced that the top portion (spire) which is now missing, was stolen (vandals) and left somewhere and then found and ended up in the Fort Phantom Cemetery because no one knew where it came from.
This is a far out theory, but so is the thought that there were 2 William E Brooks with the same birth and death dates or someone in the family had him moved to the Fort Phantom Cemetery where no other relatives are buried.
I specialize in cemetery research and enjoy solving mysteries. I have some others working on this and would appreciate being able to communicate with Myrtle Brooks Watkins' son, if he would contact me.

Myrtle Brooks Walker Find A Grave Memorial# 128458059. I see where you added a family photo to Myrtle's memorial. She is the daughter of William E Brooks 1874-1922. I am doing some research on her father William E Brooks. There are grave markers for Mr Brooks in 2 different cemeteries 27 miles apart. One is in the Potosi Cemetery in Taylor County Texas, Find A Grave Memorial# 121199071 and the other is in the Fort Phantom Cemetery in Jones County, Texas, Find A Grave Memorial# 48698880.
I was wondering if you have any information on William E Brooks.
