Bio and Links
Bio Photo I retired from Michigan State University Libraries in East Lansing to move to Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2007 when my daughter got pregnant. I'm now a full-time grandmother and loving it.

I started doing genealogy in 2002 and am hooked. I try to make genealogy field trips every year and usually take pictures of all the tombstones at the cemeteries I visit. My mother's family was from the Boyd/Carter/Elliott County area of Kentucky and my father's from Barren County, Kentucky.

Please feel free to use any photographs (or information) I have posted. I'm happy to be able to help you in your research and I know you would do the same. I have found everyone I've met doing genealogy to be extremely generous in sharing information and I'm happy to return the favor.

RE: Thomas Clevenger Family Cemetery
The cemetery is not easy to find, as it is in a grown-up wooded area. But if GPS can get you to the intersection of Overholt Road and Jade Road in Newport, youíre almost there.

If the map link below comes up as I hope it will, you will see a green arrow. Park at the tip of the arrow.

https://www.google.com/#q=map+for+intersection+of+overholt+road+and+jade+road+in+newport+tennessee

Facing north, you will see a grown-up wooded area on the left. Straight ahead, you will see a house with a large yard. Walk down the edge of this yard about halfway, then walk to the left into the wooded area and explore it. You should find some headstones. I donít recall who lives in this house, but Iíve found them (and other residents in the area) willing to give directions.

This general area is east of Newport off Old Asheville Highway. Going east from Newport soon after you go over Pigeon River Bridge, youíll come to Hwy 73 (Edwina Road). Turn right on Edwina Road and go about(?) a mile. You will see Conagra shipping warehouse on the left. (The cemetery is on the backside of Conagra property.) Off Edwina Road, turn left on Sierra Road. Jade Road will come up on the left.

Isn't that just weird? Well, hmmm... I honestly don't know how to get it off of there. Guess we can just leave it with the note that states it's the wrong cemetery. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Wrong cemetery picture
Hi,
Thank you for all your hard work.
On the memorial 69915702 you had added a picture of a cemetery.
This is the wrong cemetery. You added a picture of Piney Grove Cemetery in Advance, Davie County, NC. Don't know how it got on the Piney Grove Cemetery in Siler City, Chatham County. These things happen though. You are the only one who can delete. Would really appreciate your help in this matter. Thanks.

Susan Browning White's Grave
Hi, Becky. Thanks for finally locating my great-great grandmother's grave in Texas. I am from Barren Co., KY & it has long been a family question as to where she was buried. It is a very sad story as to why she ended up there. Apparently she, her husband, John, who was born in Co. Cork, Ireland & their young seven sons set out for Texas with her brother & his family. The party made it to Texas where Susan became ill, died and was buried. They had not begun to build a cabin and lived in their wagon. John White took the boys and returned to Barren Co., KY. This story was told to me by my mother.

This would explain why no death certificate or burial site has ever been found in Barren County for Susan Browning White and why John White married a second time; to have someone to help raise seven motherless children.

Again, thank you for solving a family mystery.

McPhersons
Thank you for all the work you've done linking the McPhersons. I'm learning a lot from it. I now know that Samuel and Marjorie McPherson, my 4x great grand parents, made the move from West Virginia to Missouri. I also now know the names of 2 sets of 5x great grand parents.
