YOU CAN ALWAYS TELL WHERE A BEAUTIFUL SOUL HAS BEEN BY THE TEARS AND THE SMILES LEFT BEHIND
My Lanigan ancestors came to America during the Great Potato Famine of Ireland. Their first child Sarah was born in New York in 1847. Her father John Lanigan and her uncle James Lanigan helped to build the first railroad into Fairfield, Iowa. (name spelled Larrigan in 1860 census) Both signed up for the Civil War in Jefferson County Iowa at Lockridge, Iowa. Both were Catholic. They both settled in Ottumwa, Iowa and that is when my grandpa James Aloysious Lanigan was born in 1860.He married Anna Phillips at the old St. Patricks church at Ottumwa on the South side.

My DeFord line is in the Knoxville, TN area. Now with that said, have lines in Dallas, TX and told Indiana-Illinois, so I may have family in Iowa just don't know yet.

EG's my great great grandfather through his son Homer Leslie White. I'm interested in the story of his and Naomi's kids getting farmed out after her and his mother's deaths. This isn't a story I know from the White blue book or my grampa although it seems logical.I know from the civil war records that they granted him leave to return to Iowa for a short time around then. Do you know if Naomi had kinfolk in the area and also do you know where Susan Hartzel is buried? One of Homer Leslie's grandchildren is still alive and she & I are always looking for more family info.

Can you tell me if the cemetery records show his death date 18 October 1852. Checked his probate record and it was dated 3 November 1851, does the marker have this death date?

I swear I found photos and other info on this site from someone other than you earlier and now I can't. Photos of his gravestone and all. He's in Iowa, that's all I remember. Will let you know if I come across it again

I've got more family info if you want it. He was my great great grandfather. Photos too. Not interested in having anything to do with Ancestry.com

Dear Ms Lanigan:
My profound thanks for the transfer. As I continue to research Catherine and her kin I may have to reach out to you again for guidance, or opinion.
