Sending a shout out to my great friend Cemetery Sue Armstrong who was documenting cemeteries long before it was cool and the Cemetery Czar along with a lot of others. Their love, encouragement and knowledge helped make my entries here possible. It's nice to know I am not the only person out there who gets excited about cemeteries. 😀|
The Story of her Missing Marker
Mary Louisa Portis
The recovery & return of this newborn's marble ledger will always be the highest point in my preservation efforts. LeeAnne Wofford, Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer at the Alabama Historical Commission, whom I am privileged to call my friend, provided me with a rubbing before it was removed from Lincoln Cemetery & taken into their custody for safe keeping. It is framed and hangs close to my desk to remind me of all the good I have done for Montgomery cemeteries.
Recently a declined transfer request resulted in an ugly exchange. Any contributor who resorts to name calling will be blocked from emailing me and the offending message forwarded to edit. It is simply not possible to stalk the dead or cemeteries. No matter how hard I try to word requests or responses, no matter how hard you try to be gentle, there will always be someone who reads more than what is intended. Since I know that I can be very blunt and straight forward, I am going to make a concerted effort to proof read my own suggestions, requests ect.
BIOS EDITS TRANSFERS
Please assemble information from records into paragraph form no matter how short. I will not add unverified birth dates/years, in particular as it pertains to infants.
Biographical information in virtual flowers will be reported, graphic details and transfer requests for the sole purpose of adding additional information and bulk surname [Meriwether & all variants] requests will be declined. Please read the guidelines regarding transfers.
For myself personally, it is not about giving me, Lonewalker any accolades because I have taken some butt ugly photos, but acknowledging my time and effort. 📸 🚗
If I ever neglect to thank a photo volunteer let me say here how much I appreciate those who beat the bushes photographing markers on my behalf. Bless you all, you make it possible for me to visit places I might not ever get to.
Kindest Regards, Lonewalker
