I am an avid family history buff and love to research. Cemeteries are such a great source for expanding family knowledge and family ties. I am delighted to be able to help anyone looking for family buried in the York and Hall County Nebraska and surrounding areas.
And for those of you who have visited my memorials and left flowers, your kindness is appreciated. I especially thank you for your thoughts about my granddaughter Michala. She is buried so far away, and I am so glad to have this place online to honor her memory. Thank you for caring.
I have added memorials for many persons who are not related to me. If you would like me to transfer these to you, please let me know. I am also willing to forward any pictures I have taken. I keep them for about a year.

Thank you for your time going to Adams County, NE and taking the grave photos of Samuel and his wife Ida. He was my 2nd Great Grandfather's brother. I've been working on the family history and appreciate your kindness in helping.

Mahlon T. Shuman
I don't often check on my ancestors but when I checked on Mahlon, #58111877, what a surprise! Thank you for posting the article about his death. I had no idea. I haven't had any luck matching him with his brothers. Time to start trying a little harder.
Thanks again,
Mary Lee

RE: Picture of harry Strobel
Yes We Are Related. My Grand Mother Was Lena Ella Maronde Junge. She Was The 10th Child Of Caroline & Frederick Maronde. Harry George Strobel's Mother Was Emma Caroline Maronde Strobel, The 5th Child. In 1988, My Father Raymond Junge & 2 Others Put Together "The Maronde Family History Book" For The 76th Maronde Family Reunion. It Covered All 12 Children & Their Decendents. Do You Have Access To This Book? It Was Also Called "The Maronde Blue Book." I Found Harry Strobel's Picture In My Dads Belongings & Thought I Would Add It To Harry's Page. Any More Questions, Just Ask.

RE: Sawyers Cemetery
I'm not sure which James Cheek you are looking for; there is more than one buried in Lee County. You may be looking for James Cheek, b. 1837 - died 28 Aug 1924, who is buried in the Sayers(not Sawyers) -Mcpherson-Gibson Cemetery in Gibson Station. I don't know much about him other than he had a Dughter, Mary Jane Hembree. You can email me at

Find A Grave Memorial# 51924011 for Howard Proud
While searching my family roots, I came across the following article regarding the death of Howard Proud. I thought it might be of some assistance to his family in their research. I am no relation to Howard Proud but found this excerpt from the Clay County Texas Genealogy website. I have included the web address below. I hope this may be of some help to someone.

Has Fatal Results for Howard Proud
Victim Sank and Came to Surface Several Times Within a Few Feet of His Companions
Electra Tex. - June 17, Yesterday afternoon, Howard Proud and eight other young men went to a small tank, on the Bear farm, about five miles north of this place, to take a refreshing plunge. Young Proud was the first to enter the water and he swam only about fifteen or twenty feet when he sank. He came to the surface and sank again. This was repeated seven times and he sank to rise no more.
His companions thought at first he was diving and were not alarmed. Later they thought there must be something wrong, but only one of them could swim at all and he was afraid to attempt to rescue his friend. About two hours later other help was secured and his body was recovered.
The fact that each time young Proud came to the surface, he was exactly in the same position, with his hands slightly raised, leads to the supposition that he must have been cramping. This is also confirmed by the fact that he was unable to speak and call for help.
The body was taken to the home of George Proud, the boy's father, where funeral arrangements are being made. The deceased was about 21 years of age and came from Aurora Nebraska last February.
