Here, on Find A Grave, I was known as PhotoGrapherInTheWoods for about 5 years; I'm also known as sudown on Ancestry and RootsWeb sites. I've had so many requests for photos that I've decided to use my family name. Please use this when using my photos "Photo / Biography courtesy of Sue Downhill, Find A Grave Volunteer 47347066."|
Genealogy research has taken me to cemeteries in Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Virginia, Nebraska, Nevada, and California. Check my Virtual Cemeteries for some family members!
Surnames I'm researching are: (1) England > USA > Can., CT & MA: Owen, Downhill; (2) New England: Elmer, Van Valkenburg, Steele, Nims, Clark, Dix; (3) Can., Pol., NH & MA: Biela, Charette, Gagnon, Rogers; (4) Ire., MD, FL: Ford, Vail, Geoghegan, Dixon; (5) VA, PA: Johnson, Avery, Hardaway, Harrison; (6) NY, NE, NV, TN, AL, TX: Nesbitt, Pearce, Johnson, Bennett. (7) NY, PA: Welter-Lyman.
I hope you find someone you're looking for in my postings and enjoy them as much as I did creating the memorial and adding the photos.
I have found several of my photos on Ancestry dot com used with no permission granted and no credit given. Here's links to the Copyright Law.

I do enjoy sharing the photos when proper credit is given! Many miles were traveled to obtain pictures of these stones. If you should need a higher resolution picture -just ask! thanks! Saw this link on another gravers' profile page the information was so terrific I want to share it here. It's about 9 printable pages How To Get Great Photos For Find A Grave .
Thank you to all who walk the yards of stones, and photograph what they see. As I visualize some of the old stones I realize how important it is to have a digital record the stone cutters's creations, -and, the memorials they created of our past generations.
The Final Gift
Scatter me not to restless winds
Nor scatter my ashes to the sea
Remember now those years gone by
When loving gifts I gave to thee
Remember now the happy times
The family ties we shared
Don't leave my resting place unmarked
As though you never cared
Deny me not one final gift
For all who come to see
A single lasting proof that says
I loved... and you loved me

Thank you Sue.
|John Quiring||George Johnson|
Hi. I just transferred Mr. Johnson's memorial to you. Do you live close to Aurora? If not I will put this grave down for a photo. Should be done in the next week. John Q
Thanks for the information. I added a message to the memorial about it being a cenotaph. I tried to add the link, but it wouldn't work.

Thanks for the data on Clara. I picked up her exact date and locations of birth and death from NEHGS then linked his parents. But I took the easy route and simply did a copy/paste of the data from your note. Ironically, her address of 13 Elliot Street in Springfield is a couple of hundred yards from where I went to grammar school.
These memorials that were originally put up by John O'Connor were actually done by John and a volunteer, me! We put up about 22,000 or so. But John had his "style" and insisted on back-filling info in a very peculiar way. He transferred hundreds over the years but the last 18- or 19-thousand were turned over to me as John is in his 80's and can no longer work the site. So I've been editing on a daily basis with help from people like Sue Downhill!!

Sue, O would leave it up so others will realize that a stone/marker is not available as if this time. Phil
Thank you Sue for your effort in trying to get a picture of Edith's gravestone. Your effort and time are greatly appreciated. Phil
Oh, and you may post them with credit:)

Both requests transferred.
I was there to take pictures of a relative and I usually take others to post as well, helps others, in this case you. :)
My pleasure to have helped.

I am usually very good about edits, and any edits, links, bio info, etc. you wish to add to any memorials I create are not only done fairly quickly, but also appreciated and welcomed greatly. And one does not need to manage a memorial to get that sort of stuff done. With that being said.... to the best of my knowledge, I don't have any Elmers in my tree, and I always prefer memorials to be with family if at all possible.
I just take pictures... lots of pictures... and occasionally I even take GOOD pictures. Transfers coming your way. If I made the memorial, then I photographed the graves...glad I could add pics for you. :D
