I have been an avid genealogist since 1995. Through family documents and the evolution of the internet I have been fortunate enough to connect with other family members and share information. I find genealogy an interesting way to learn about the time in which my ancestors lived, what they did for a living, where they lived, and who they lived with.

I am a volunteer transcriber of death records. There may be slight human error but I try to have the memorials that I care for and send edits to as accurate as possible. I believe that information on the memorials should be sourced and so I try to do so. If you see any errors on the memorials that I maintain, kindly let me know. I generally list any discrepancies of information in the memorial notes.

Some of the people that I have memorials for are family members while the vast majority are from the transcribing of death records from the BC Archives (http://search-collections.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/Genealogy). Of course, the information is only as good as the source and the informant will have answered to the best of their knowledge. I am simply replicating this information unless further documentation shows otherwise.

The purpose of my volunteering on FAG is to connect memorials with their family members. If you are related to any of the people whose memorial I am responsible for, I would love to hear from you. I will happily transfer a memorial of someone related to you (and not to me). Please just ask! (Please include the memorial number(s) in the message.)

NOTE: In an attempt to keep FAG accurate, please do not send parental links that do not match the information on the memorial page. I do acknowledge that death records do contain errors but I will not change memorial information unless provided with other sources. Thank you.

RE: the McLeans (MacLeans)
Years ago for the more important registrations I would drop into the Vancouver main library when visiting my daughter; now that they are on-line (new to me this week), I guess I should back to work on some other BC connections.
Note, your posting helped me in more than one way.

the McLeans (MacLeans)
I can't find my original posting to Find A Grave regarding John Munro McLean (MacLean) but you have indirectly assisted me to-day. There were 2 John Munro McLeans, father and son. Clara Alvesta indeed was married to the father per your posting and my wife's ancestor Amy Trew Haskell was married to the son. John Munro McLean, Jr. died 1987, age 98, buried Ocean View and Amy Trew Haskell/McLean died 1976 and too is buried Ocean View. Thanks for your forwarding information and indirect assistance correcting my family profile after all these years.

One Cemetery on Kuper/Penelakut
Val, we've discussed some burials before on Kuper. Just recently I realize that while there is only one cemetery on the island, there are 2 separate listings here on Find a Grave.

Kuper – 9 records at: https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GScid=2600142

Penelakut Island Band Cemetery – 49 records at:
https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GScid=2595315

One site has a reference to the other; the other does not have a cross-reference. Is it possible to combine the 2 listings under just one name?
Thanks - if you can help! Joanne

Ocean View Burial Park, owned by Dignity Memorial, is a privately owned cemetery. Dignity Memorial will not give information to a third party, you must be a relative. They feel that they could be sued for release of private information.
If you contact their office (through email) and request their location I would take a photo for you. They would be willing to do a lookup if the request came from a family member. If you cannot figure out your connection, say you are a cousin.

If you want to contact direct:

korey.yu@dignitymemorial.com

Once you have the location just enter it into the memorial page and it will show on the photo request.
Thank you,
Karen

Ignore my last message - I now see our communication on line - which is why I couldn't find it on my computer. SO SORRY!

Musqueam Cemetery
Val, I know we communicated on some grave locations before, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out why I might be managing the information for Mary Frank Whaquiton Charlie at Musqueam - Memorial# 149951955. If you can remind me of our previous communication, perhaps that might help. As it is, I can find no information regarding this woman on my computer! Many thanks! Joanne

RE: How do I add co-ordinates for a cemetery?
The war grave. Sometimes the answer just "springs out at you" on the internet. The War Grave Commission provided the co ordinates and then I find the answer to be that the "unknown airman" was one of the crew on the ill fated "BC Star" which was an overloaded vessel sinking with all hands on board, some including military in July of 1943. His was the only body ever found and washed ashore on Price Island just north of Bella Bella. Have put up a memorial for him as an unknown. Before the age of DNA or through his kin would have soon been identified. Have attached list of his fellow crewmen as well. Maybe some day a descendant of one of them may be curious enough to pursue. I just know you would have found the info same as me :) http://www.101nisquadron.org/cairn-projects/the-story-of-m427-bc-star/

How do I add co-ordinates for a cemetery?
I see you have a burial(s) in Meadow Island Cemetery, Bella Bella. You are more experienced in Find A Grave than I so wonder how to add this info? Maybe if you created cemetery you'd be able to. Can't see anywhere to do so yet someone has suggested an alternate name of Grave Island. There is actually a war grave there as well....unidentified airman (Location Information
The cemetery contains the grave of one unidentified airman of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Grave 178. Plot N. Row 3).. Thus the co-ordinates:
Country:Canada
Locality:British Columbia
Identified Casualties:
0
GPS CO-Ordinates:
Longitude:-128.08798
Latitude:52.16743
