In regard to this cemetery, I need to tell you that I live in SC. and was visiting this cemetery on a trip because I too had someone buried there, but was also unable to find his marker. So I don't know who, if anybody, is taking care of it. When we were there, it was March and the foliage and weeds had not taken over. The cemetery was very treed and dark on a sunny day and I don't know that it would ever actually be overgrown with weeds, but there were lots of broken off twigs and limbs laying around, along with all the broken off pieces of markers and the field stones. You had to watch your step. I doubt that it is ever cleaned up based on how things were just here and there. There are a couple of views of the cemetery if you go to the link to the cemetery name on Findagrave. One shows the sign. It is sad for families when they find out their loved ones are in un-cared for cemeteries, but it is also a common problem, especially when they are no longer in use.

You asked what my connection is to Thomas Jasper Hotchkiss - he was brother to Mary Evelyn Hotchkiss, my late husband's grandmother. As we were married 36 years, I consider his family mine too.

I have a photo of a Virginia Kraft in Section 1 Row C and it has the date of Sept. 28 1907. Didn't know if this might be the one you have listed? This is in Greenwich Cemetery. Sorry, I just wanted to ask you about it before I added a new one or added the photo on your page. thanks! Jen
|Laura Tully||Riner requests|
Thank you for the effort. Seems someone already beat you to it after all. My original request was answered in less than a week just this past January. I have a lot of relatives buried in Bonaventure Cemetery and I've just recently discovered that a lot of them are on findagrave but have no marker photos and when the photos are added, no dates are added and/or edits are done. Seems both of these Riner men had dates of death on their memorial pages but no birthdates even though the markers had both dates. I had to edit them as the person who added the photos did not. Anyway, thanks again. I make the photo requests when I find more about my relatives so I'll probably make more requests. Do you know if Greenwich is a section of Bonaventure or an entirely different cemetery? According to findagrave, they're two different cemeteries. When I look at the Bonaventure Cemetery map, Greenwich is a section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
|LLL-SAL||George Johnson - Oakwood|
Ally - you have a photo request for a George W. Johnson at Oakwood in Richmond. I recently took a photo of a George W. Johnson at Oakwood. The death date is the same (Aug. 25th of 2001) but the birth date is different (Feb. 24th 1918). Could this be the same person ? He is buried with a Charles F. and Janie L. Johnson. Thanks, Larry

You're very welcome, and yes, that would be fine. Are there any others you are looking for in that area?

|JoAnn HAGANS Harris||RE: Hey JoAnn!|
I purchased the 3 volume set (at this time) from the Diocese in Savannah a few years ago and yes I am typing each letter/word. From comparing the books to the actual burial info and from the volunteers, who have donated their time, I have learned a lot and have sent/added edits/info have to me, have tripled our knowledge abt. the cemetery and those interred there. I don't go from cover to cover or volume I-3, I look at the index and go from there. As I complete as well as other contributors, I highlight the names in the index. I have at times called the Diocesean offices and have asked a few questions so I can make, to the best of my ability, to have correct info. I know that there are duplicates in the volumes and I also make notes of that in each bio section. Sometimes watching television, I crank up and submit info and sometimes I crank it up all day and into the night. I have health issues and am hoping that at the end of my daily contributions, have helped at least one person and all the work will be worth my time.
If I can ever help you or others, kindly contact me.

I use a lot of sites..Augusta Chronicle archives, Newspaper.com, southern Cross archives, Ancestry.com, and so forth.. I believe the Savannah obits came from Legacy.com..obits are archived from around 1995 on... C J Smith
