Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been researching some of the 36,000 + Army Air Forces personnel who died in the line of duty, of non-combat causes during the World War II era in service-related accidents. It is said that more
than 15,500 Army airmen were killed in airplane accidents between 1941 and 1946, within the borders of the U.S. and it's territories. They gave their all and died in the service of their country, but received no purple hearts and virtually no mention in the history books and have largely been forgotten by time.

For corrections, additions, or requests for transfer of memorial, please use the Edit tab, and select Suggest a Correction or Provide Additional Information to make any update requests. It is much easier to handle the issue this way, rather than a personal message.

I am happy to update any memorial, including family links. But I DO NOT like adding census information, copies of death certificates and please do not add long obituaries to the "photo" area. The information can be condensed and pasted into the bio area. If you don't have the time to type out the obituary, just email it to me. I will add it and give you credit for finding it.
I appreciate any information that can "round out" someone's bio.

Can you please add her marker picture? You have one on her husband's memorial.

Tim - I checked with the cemetery again and he is not listed by the year the gov't marker was applied for either. I have another angle I'm pursuing. Even if I find it, it may take awhile to get a photo since we're snow-covered here! I'll keep you informed. *Eileen

Your Work on Find A Grave
Hi Tim;
Yesterday while taking many photos at my local cemetery I found a stone in memory of Bryce Gordon Grant who died over Germany in a B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber. You have his memorial in France. I created his memorial here at Lakeside Cemetery and have linked it to your memorial in France. He died for his country and his family was left here in Michigan without him. His parents are buried here.

Thank you for the work you are doing with Find A Grave.

Grave Memorial# 871883 - Kerschner, Elmer R., Cpl., 33766072
Tim,

I am the nephew of Elmer R."Bruz" Kerschner. I just found this record and want to thank you for maintaining it. Now that I know it is here, I will cherish and add to it.

Unfortunately Bruz's Parents (my grandparent's) and all of his four sisters (Betty, Doris, Mary, and Patricia) have all passed away.

I am trying to gather as much information as possible and this site is will serve as a great memorial so that the memory of Bruz will live on.

Thank you again.

RE: B-17 44-83320
Tim,

Thanks for getting back to me. I've sent an email to the folks with the records offering to pay for the information, but haven't heard back yet. Besides Waddell, I'm curious about the other fellows in the photo. I know at least two came home after the war so they must not have been on the flight. That leaves William Knight unaccounted for. So, part of the mystery continues.

RE: PFC Salvatore Santora #174460224
Tim - thanks for the info; it might be helpful. I know that funeral home in Garfield. If the cemetery doesn't have him listed by the burial date, I will check with them. *Eileen

B-17 44-83320
HI,

Iím researching the members of B-17 44-83320 that crashed on takeoff at Turner Field in Georgia on Feb 12, 1945. You have posted most of the crew members on Find a Grave, including the pilot John F. Bradley #142581092.

I am suspicious that another posting, Raymond Waddell (#92272499) who died on Feb 25, 1945 as the result of a plane crash also at Hunter Field (Camp Hunter), may have been on that flight but survived for almost two weeks before he died. I canít find another crash at Hunter Field between the dates of Feb 12 and 25th.

Do you have any way of checking to see if he was on that flight? If he was, Iíd like to post a photo I have of him and his crew taken some time earlier. Youíll see that photo and the crew listing on the back on John Bradleyís page.

Thanks for the fine work you are doing. Iím new to these investigations, which started only because I came across a photo in my dadís WWII memorabilia.

PFC Salvatore Santora
Tim - I checked with the cemetery office to get a plot number for PFC Santora (#174460224) so I could take a picture of his grave stone. They don't have any record of his burial. Are you sure you have the right cemetery (St. Mary's, Saddle Brook, NJ)? *Eileen

Re James Smith
Most likely same person as I took the phot in the Old Park section. I could add photo to your memorial and then delete my duplicate.

Hi Tim, Thank you very much for the additions/corrections to this memorial. While you had control of this memorial, I found the burial card. I see you were ahead of me. Lynda
