Bio and Links
Bio Photo A longtime interest in genealogy and cemeteries paired with a fascination (alright, obsession) with local history brought me to Find A Grave. Wandering around cemeteries, researching and connecting the dots are the best aspects of genealogy for me. I'm also drawn to the design and typography of headstones--faux bois and Art Nouveau styles are my favorites. And sometimes a stone with the light hitting it just right demands to have its picture taken.

All information I've posted is in the public domain or has been submitted by another member (and some sources have wrong data), but if you'd like to have it removed or changed--or if I've made a wrong intuitive leap, please let me know. Likewise, feel free to contact me to have a relative transferred. If you reuse one of my photos, I would love to hear from you, but in any case, please attribute it. Unhelpful messages from people without a F-A-G account will not be responded to.

RE: Bertha Heinrich Becker at Forest Home cemetery
Yes Debbie I'd be interested but don't know how to do it.
What do I have to do?

Grace Elliott obit
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this obit.
She is my maternal g-grandmother and I knew very little about her other than a visit in the nursing home with my mom. She disliked little kids so our visit was short. I'm pretty sure it was mom's last visit with her.

Hi Debbie, I received your email about Alfred Gaedts parents being Carl and Valaria.
Carl's Obit lists his children as John, Fred and Louis.
Albert's Obit lists his father as Charles (Mary his mother on his death cert). His siblings Edgar, Malena, Oswald, Alice and Gertrude.
My husband is a relative of Ella Norton, Albert's wife.
Her father is my grandmother's Louise Norton Emmel's brother.
Sorry, I still disagree with you, I will continue my search. If it turns out I'm wrong I apologize in advance.

Hi Debbie, I am doing research for Alfred C. Gaedt.
In the Obit please notice that his father is listed as Charles.
In the Parents section you have the wrong parents listed.
Alfred C Gaedt's father is Charles Gaedt and his mother is Mary Zenk. See Illinois Deaths 1916-1947
Alfred C Gaedt, 30 July 1916 Public board of Health, Archives, Springfield; FHL microfilm 1,530,923

La Fontaine-Mt. Carmel
Debbie, We recently where asked by a friend to try to find the grave of his Aunt and Uncle, Classen and Virginia Rieger. It turned out that we had already found it in Oct 2015. His grandmother is Hilda La Fountaine Sheahan. As a result I started researching the name La Fountaine and looking for the grave sites at Mt. Carmel. The burial record on the machine indicates Louis (spelled Lewis on machine) is buried at Calvary, but who knows, he may have been moved to Mt. Carmel. One of these days when I am over at the cemetery I will ask who all is buried at the site L that only has the name La Fouintaine. Judy

RE: Ellen Hall at Forest Home Cemetery
Yes, I have been to the Oak Park Historical Society as well, but their hours can be restrictive. The last time I was there I could only come for four hours because no one was available to watch the research room in the morning. The Newberry Library has more hours per day, and it is more comfortable, but it takes longer to get there and back. They both have the exact same microfilm (five rolls - 2 Waldheim German, 3 Forest Home).

Did you mean to say the info is organized by date (instead of section)? Or are we looking at different parts of their collection?

Ellen Hall at Forest Home Cemetery
Hi! Do you know where this grave was located in the cemetery?

Also, here is the obituary that I found.

"DAVIS - Mrs. Ellen Davis, aged 82, widow of Dr. Joshua E. Davis, formerly of Gibson City, Ill., Saturday, Dec. 10. Funeral Tuesday, 2 p. m., from residence of son, 840 S. Taylor-av., Oak Park. Burial at Forest Home Cemetery." Source: Chicago Daily Tribune, December 13, 1910, Page 20

Thanks for your help! Ace
