Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have always been history minded, interested in people, places and events of our past. Added to that is the fact that both my parents instilled in me a sense of family, often talking about specific family members and events that occurred in the past. It gave me the sense that I knew these people even if they were gone before I was born. The fact that my father was born in the late 1800's and I was born to him late in life, just added another dimension to all of this. Taking a drive with Dad through the old familiar territory of his childhood was an education in and of itself, listening to his remembrances of another time.

Most likely as a result of all this, I have always been fascinated with cemeteries and the various information inscripted on gravestones. When visiting a family cemetery, I would often wander around looking at many of the other graves. Or when visiting historical sites, cemeteries are always on my list. I remember a trip I took with my husband a few years back where we visited Arlington National Cemetery and spent the entire day walking the cemetery. We then went the next day to Gettysburg and walked some more, looking at grave after grave. My husband, though a good sport in all this, finally said, "Do you think you have seen enough graves for this weekend?" I had to laugh.

After discovering Find A Grave, I would spend a lot of time browsing the site looking for family members and just reading memorials left for other folks. After a couple years of doing this, I realized that it was time to "join up" and be useful in this regard. Even in the Bible, people were told to set stones and remember. I think we are all called to remember. This I my way of honoring those who went before.

RE: Nancy Effie (Mays) Hite
And now it's me who needs to apologize for taking a long time to get back to you!

Nancy Mays is a distant cousin (3C3R). Eva Effie May (1809-1900) is the daughter of John R Bloom. John is the son of my 4th great-grandfather William Bloom, Sr. (1752-1828). If I'm not mistaken, William is also your 4th great grandfather as I have a "Daneen" (Todd) Dent in my database.

Have you by chance had any correspondence with Bill Mays, a 5th cousin (like you) who lives in Florida? I've known Bill for several years, because of our mutual interest in genealogy. I had the opportunity to visit him twice during my travels last summer spending two weeks there. It was data provided by him that included your grandmother's name and family information.

I spent six-months this past summer on a road trip back to the east, from my home here in Las Vegas. I did a lot of genealogy research and took hundreds of photographs along the way, While there I visited our grandfather William Bloom's grave in Clearfield County PA, where I was born. I also produced a short video about the McClure Cemetery and relatives (including William) who are buried there and in the surrounding area. You can view it at the following link.

Thank you so much for replying with the data you provided. I am very much interested in hearing more from you as we pursue our genealogy research . I'm curious, where do you live?

Feel free to contact me in the future at my genealogy email address at:

All the best to you and yours!

Nancy Effie (Mays) Hite
In the memorial #41232407 for Nancy (Mays) Hite there are two photos multiple people. Can you identify within the memorial information which person is actually Nancy as well as identify the others?

Also, can you identify the people that wrote the tributes to her?

Thank you!

Thank you! That's usually what I go by, whether they're related or at least know the person (ex: friend, co-worker, etc). Thanks again for the transfer!

Nerina Berardinelli (166729275)
Would you mind transferring Nerina's memorial to me? She's a distant relative of mine. I came in contact with one of her husbands brothers a few years back and write letters every now and then.
