Bio and Links
Bio Photo December 15, 2016 I lost my husband Bob. He was only 75. My biggest wish is that those who knew him remember the good life he led when his body was strong. I am so lucky that he was mentally strong always.

FIND A GRAVE IS A GREAT SITE! Margie has been doing family tree research for well over FIFTY years - half a century! Her cemetery-loving mom, Doris (Kinkade) Allred Shones, started taking her to cemeteries when she was 8 years old. Margie has spent several decades concentrating on Stickney, Kinkade, Franklin, and Beaver families.
Margie photographed over 2000 graves at Washington Veterans Home in Retsil, Washington. She has created over 800 biographies from their free online files at We have no relatives in this cemetery and want these veterans to be remembered for their service. Margie is a Navy and Air Force veteran; Bob served in the Army.
I will do my best to help make any memorial as complete as possible. DigitalArchives.Wa.Gov is a FREE site for looking up WA state records and Google has a site for select Online newspapers that is also free. If I come across an obit when reading old papers, I will try and find that person at findagrave and send a correction; I am not usually related. I will cite the newspaper, date and page. There is also no need to ask permission for using any of my 2800+ grave photos - I consider them a public service and you can use them in your family history without crediting me. I also do not need credit for any obits as I always source the paper.

Happy Graving!

RE: John D. Jones # 5559314
Margie, Thanks for the link about Johns service record on file at Retsil. I was already aware of this and his record on file at the Hot Springs Veterans Home as well. I did notice in the file at Retsil that it mentions he has been in a home in California prior to his stay in Retsil. Do you have any idea where I can find out about that stay? I have been looking online but no luck so far. If you have a suggestion as to where I might follow up on that I would appreciate it. Thanks again for taking the time to point me in the right direction for finding more on John's life in WA.

John D. Jones # 5559314
Thank You so much for the photo that was added on John's memorial. I was able to go visit his grave site last year in August 2016. I placed a flag upon his grave 99 years after his death. This was long overdue and I have been researching John for almost 40 years now. Since John never married or had children of his own I have had a special interest in "finding his story". John wrote to his brother Lorenzo, who was my great great grand father, about his travels west after the Civil War. Unfortunately the brothers were never able to see one another after the war but much news and love for family was written in the letters between the two. Thanks again for helping me find John and posting a picture that helped lead me to his grave. I feel this story has come full circle.

You're welcome. Good luck with your research. They can be difficult at times.

I'll do some digging on Ancestry and on the obit site I use too and see if anything pops up.

Take care.

Thanks for your response. In case you're interested, James Iddings Rooker was a surgeon at Shiloh! Family history has it that Margaret Jane Rooker's parents did NOT approve of her marriage fo JIR. If they were turning their noses up at their daughter's choice in husbands, it would seem they were snooty and I can't figure out why they don't have gravestones. I took a class last night and among other things I learned how to use dowsing rods to find gravestones. Next time I'm in Cinci I will try my luck at using dowsing rods to find any earth covered grave markers. Again, thanks for your input.

I know the gravesite of her parents at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio, but there are no stones. Does anyone know why?

RE: Elmer Love Photo
Hi Margie -

I got a copy of Elmer & possibly Alma's picture that you put in his Memorial and I updated some info on both of their Memorials. Have to enter Elmer's 2nd wife if that is possible. Thanks.
