Retired from twenty-two years in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1990. Have lived in beautiful East Tennessee since 2004. My wife, Nikki Lynn, and I are interested in helping folks with their local cemetery picture requests.|
I am a descendant of the Herrings of Madison County, Georgia. Four brothers (along with their half-brother, James W. Payton) enlisted in Company A, 16th GA Volunteer Infantry Regiment, CSA (Madison County Greys) in 1861/62.
One brother, Henry L. Herring (my gg grandfather), survived, although he lost the use of an arm from a gunshot wound inflicted at Chancellorsville.
Also, their father, Alpheus Herring (age 51 in 1862), in the defense of his country, joined Echol's Light Artillery, CSA when it was organized in July, 1862; he survived.
"Their bodies are buried in peace; but their name liveth for evermore." - Ecclus 44: 14
"The past isn't gone. It isn't even past."
"To be ignorant of what occurred before you were born is to remain always a child. For what is the worth of human life, unless it is woven into the lives of our ancestors by the records of history?"
Cicero, Roman orator

Thanks for trying.
|Rick Miller||Dalton birth order|
Martha Jane was the oldest. Her year of birth is listed as 1837, 1838, and 1836 on the 1850, 1860 and 1880 censuses. I favor 1836 as the correct year.
The next child was Louisa, born about 1838.
Then comes Perry who was born in Oct. 1839.
Then Elizabeth 1841.
Nathan P 1842
Barbary Mahulda 1845
Christopher Colby 1849
Harriet A 1850
Sarah J 1852
Mahala J 1854
Rose L 1856

I thought I would explain why I submitted the name change request on this Dalton, as nearly everybody researching him has his name as Nathan Perry Dalton.
He was the son of Colby and Elizabeth (McGinnis) Dalton. He had an older brother named Perry, who was born Oct. 1839, date of death unknown.
Just about everybody who possibly could, including me for a while, has conflated Nathan P Dalton with his brother Perry.
They are clearly two different people as both of them are listed in their parents' household on the 1850 and 1860 censuses. There is no primary record that I have found that lists Nathan P's middle name as Perry. Somewhere back along the line, somebody assumed that it was Perry, and it has been copied over and over again by other people since then.
Perry was alive at least until 1910, as I have found him on the 1880, 1900, and 1910 censuses. I have yet to find a date of death for him.
If you have questions or comments, don't hesitate to ask.

There is another memorial for this person in a different cemetery that was made 2012. He is listed as being in Silver Brook Cemetery and there is also a headstone picture for him there as well. It appears to be the same headstone. Im not sure which maybe correct but wanted to make you aware.

You're welcome R.D!
I was just reading some of the notes between you and James(Romper90069). I'm glad the photos are taken care of. I did submit an edit to have the birth year corrected for PFC Robert Olvera. If the person managing this memorial doesn't correct the error, it should automatically correct after twenty one days!

Yes, they did have wonderful life, and very much in Love. He never let what happened to him sour his outlook. I have many cousins, but he was my favorite. Yes, he certainly was a Hero.
