Hi. My name is Danny Kirk. I just wanted to share something with you about Brad. And I know you probably wont believe it, but I swear it is true. Back in 75, I was 11 yrs old. The most bullied kid in school, and I just lost my friend Eric to Leukemia. We lived in the country, south of Luthersburg Pa, off a The Greenville Pike. On a 330 acre farm. Back in the woods behind the farm, was what we called ,the strippens. And a hunting cabin was there near it. And an old sandstone quarry right in front of it, in the woods. That cabin was owned by Ricahrd "Norman" Thomas. Dick Thomas, or sometimes he went by "Norm". A nice old French gentleman who my family had bought the farm from, and he lived in a small trailer down the hill form the farmhouse. On what is now called Macklin Rd. I do have reason to believe he may have been related to Donald Thomas. For just before meeting Brad and Fran, he did tell me, "He would be having family coming down from up north to visit the hunting cabin, and that I would be meeting them". And mentioned, "Boston" as where they were coming from. Anyways... After my friend died, I was depressed, and just wanted to end it all. And had taken this thing I had made, up to the top of that cliff, hauling it on a red wagon. It was just two small boards, a wing and a tail made from some thin plywood. Brad called, it, "That thing, with wings". When I spoke with him the following day. I thought I was completely alone up there, and on the third run on up towards the cliff, it was to be my last. When suddenly this voice came screaming out to me from below. With absolute and complete terror. "Don't Jump". I didn't see them down there that day, and for a moment it kind of brought me back to my self. Up till then I was just kind of watching myself do it. And I ended up just pushing it over the edge, by itself. The following day, I went to look at it. At the bottom of that cliff, and then up past the cabin. Up the steep hill of shale, and to the strippens. And was really bummed out, nothing seemed real at the time, I remember. And just like the day before, there was no wind at all. I was messing around taking a speaker magnet out of a junk car there when Brad came up the hill ,and introduced himself to me, then asked my name, ant then age. The repeated my age back to me. He was really nice, and was wearing this red sox hat. That later Sheehan made the joke of. Saying, "Look at this guy, just look at him...We all wear cammo to come to the hunting cabin, and he wears the Red Hat...Something about him not wanting to harm the animals isn't it". It was a Red Sox ballcap with stockings on the patch on the front, in the middle. I am ABSOLUYELY sure it was them two. For Sheehan came up that hill right after Brad said my age back to me. And with a bottle in his hand was shouting out, "Hesss BRADD from BOWSTONN"! And later when he was leaving he did also shout out, "Bass Player". Later Brad told me his friend's nickname they called him back then. "Maddog". Without going on and on... All I want to say is this. Brad took the time to speak to me alone that day. And he had a tear in his eye when he spoke privately with me. About the cliff the day before. I had absolutely no clue it was him who was down there, with his friend. Some days later, he left this beautiful dog for me, at the end of the driveway, after speaking with my stepfather, who only reluctantly accepted that dog. And by the way, my stepfather, had it killed the very next day. THAT is the most painful thing about that time of my life. Nothing else, compares to that. Brad was driving a yellow Volkswagen and after he left, I seen him looking back two times, and the look on his face. I know he had to be thinking he just made a big mistake. You would have to had met my stepfather, to know what I am talking about. Sociopath, doesn't even begin to describe him. And he was one of the reasons I was at that cliff, that day. But...Just after Brad left that dog, I went running back to that cabin, where he was with the guys who had the white van. The one with the sliding door open on the side, parked next to his bug. And Brad ended up breaking his hand, protecting me, that day. Believe me I couldn't make this stuff up. And I was there. The way he suddenly just screamed out to the guy, who I believe was probably the drummer. "Yourr not Gonna TOUCH Him"! As he just suddenly jumped up, and ran to him, knocking both to the floor, in that cabin, just before the door. And I had seen Sheehan get out of the car, just as Brad had arrived that day, to drop the dog off. And he was walking quickly away, saying, "well, im not waiting here" and had left the door open on his side of the car. By the way, he was drunk back then, Brad was sober as a judge. And his friend, also DID once shout out at that cliff at me, that day, "Jump"! Which made Brad once again, really yell out, "NO! Don't Jump, DONT Do it"! Then to his friend, "Shut up, what's the matter with you" As I then heard them arguing and the voices receded, back towards the cabin. There was this second dog that was on the back porch some weeks later, when I got home one day from school. Small with big eyes, and grey like. I think it was my sister who nicknamed it Chi Chi. But of course just as soon as my stepfather came home, he had my brother take it to the woods and shoot it... Then we suddenly moved from there, and it was as if leaving a room and closing the door, never to go back. And I tried to forget all about it. But deep down I always knew. And when my first born was a girl, we named her, Holly Ann, at the time of the song. I had considered telling her then, about it all, but figured she wouldn't believe me, who the heck would? Then last year, while watching this episode of Chichago fire with my wife, of almost 30 years. I suddenly found myself right back there. At the end of that episode a boy received a dog from the firehouse, after his mother died. And I sat there, with tears running down, un controllably. And the more she asked what was wrong, the more I could not speak. All I could manage after a while was something of part of which I had heard Brad say that day he left that dog. "Every young boy should have a dog". And it wasn't until the following days or so later, when we seen the boy on tv sneanking in to hug the neighbors dog, in their garage, that I finally broke down and took her aside, and told her. She long knew I had once had two dogs that my stepfather killed. But I never told her I tried to kill myself, and WHO it was who gave me the first one. So I know she didn't believe me at the time. So some time later, I spoke with David Cross. A friend of Brads who put me in touch with Micki Delp, on my wifes FB chat acct. Along with my wife. She told us Brad gave two dogs once back befoe they married, a retriever and a chichuchaa. And that he drove the yellow vw bug. And in all honesty, I asked her if he drove a yellow vw bus, confusing it with the guys at the cabin. And the dog, I thought was a collie, but what do I know, I only had it for a day. Only vaguely can I recall what that first one looked like. and only remember it having reddish brown hair, with curls at the sides, by its belly. That second dog, I never even spoke to her about. And my wife long knew about that one, even talking about it with my brother who killed it on a occasion with her. That one HAD to have been the chichuchaa. And it was some weeks later. But I only seen him leave the first one. I will forever remember how he was that day. How he had the tear in his eye. And you know what he said, after I asked him what his friend meant by saying your Brad from Boston? "It's nothing, it's just a band I'm in". And then went and picked up a piece of shale, and was totally amazed by the fern fossils in it. Later he did mention his friend "Barry" who was a geologist. Then took one step with me, and stopped. And corrected himself, saying, "Well, is going to university to become a Geologist". He was absolutely THE most kindest person I have ever met. And at the time in my life when I felt no one cared. He really did save my life. Sorry for the long post, but I felt for some reason that I just had to share it with you. And I do think Micki probably don't believe me. For just as soon as I mentioned Sheehan was there, she cut off all communications. No doubt he probably told her it didn't happen, but why would I say he was there, knowing her sister is married to Barry, and they live like almost next door to each other? It is either that, or maybe she don't care, I don't know. But I swear it is true. And all I would say to her probably would be, to have her ask his first wife Kathy. No doubt she would know if Brad and Fran went to that cabin, and him breaking his hand. Right after leaving the first dog, the retriever. All I had wanted was for someone to validate it for my wife. so I can go get treatment for the severe depression they sayi have. and I am not going until then, they will just look at me like I am some delusional nutjob, and just dope me up. Either that or lock me up....
