Happy Holidays and New Year, Ron!
As I was looking over all of the messages left for Frances Farmer, after leaving my Christmas
and New Year's greetings for her, I was very
touched by your note.
What a gift to have seen
her at Wabash College, during the Channel 6 Caravan! (By the way: one of my brothers is a Wabash graduate, Class of 1987.
Frances certainly was beautiful and had(as all actresses and intelligent women must have) a beautiful speaking voice. She was tremendously talented and brilliant and vibrant.
Her life was so full of tragedy, but through her autobiography, WILL THERE EVER BE A MORNING, she had the last word. She exposed all the abuse that was heaped upon her, by those she worked
with in the theater, Hollywood, and her parents. In her last years, she did give her soul to God, due to the love of a child, who told her, "I love you, because you're good."
She is one of my angels, for I have felt the agony of mental illness: I am bipolar. Although I've been so richly blessed to be living in the modern era, having a mentall illness still brings suffering and stigma. Knowing what she suffered (I saw FRANCES before I knew I had the disease then read her autobiography, afterwards.) Knowing the INHUMAN mistreatment she suffered in the mental asylum, and the terrible attitudes displayed towards her, especially in a world that did not understand such a brilliant, outspoken, WOMAN...makes me carry my own mental health cross, much more easily than if I did not know of her.
Living in Indianapolis, I was able, with this website's help, to put flowers by her grave in in Fishers.
GOD BLESS YOU and all who leave such messages of love and respect to this little-known, but SO IMPORTANT woman!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Anne Beckman
Ronnie, what a surprise to find you on here! I came across your memorial to your mom. I've been working on a family tree for me and my husband. I have included your mother's information. In case you haven't figured it out, I'm Nancy Meagher Spurgeon's daughter. Now living in Louisiana.
