Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am 9th generation Tichenor in America and webmaster of The Tichenor Families in America website.
I was raised in Saline County Missouri near the town of Napton, where the Napton Zoar Cemetery is located. I am the secretary/treasurer of the Napton Zoar Cemetery Association. My father, mother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and several other relatives are buried at Zoar.
I assume the responsibility of establishing and maintaining memorials with greatest solemnity and sincerity. I am always interested in making corrections to memorials I have established to ensure an accurate historical record, as well as a respectful presentation.
I am willing to transfer memorials to verified descendants or close relatives (generally, no more than seven degrees of consanguinity. Past that I may very well be as related to the person in question as the person requesting the transfer). I am also willing to make transfer of memorials to non-relatives if the person requesting the transfer is the verified keeper of records for the cemetery where the deceased is located.
I am not inclined to make transfers of memorials that I have established in the Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery (Napton, Saline County, Missouri), as I am the secretary/treasurer and keeper of records for the cemetery and prefer to maintain those records. I am willing to consider suggestions for corrections to records at Zoar. It is always appreciated for any suggestion to be accompanied by a citation of authenticity, e.g. birth or death certificate, obituary, etc. If you make a suggestion for a correction and do not give me some citation or verification, do not be surprised if you get a message from me asking for same. Additionally, if you are the holder of a memorial at Zoar, and you are not related to the person and have no interest in maintaining the memorial, I am willing to assume the maintenance of the memorial if you are so inclined.

RE: Fairville Cemetery
Update. Just spoke with Mr Hupp and he has recently taken charge of doing some work in maintaining the FairVille Cemetery. I am SO pleased.

RE: Fairville Cemetery
Wanted to tell you some good news, I think.
Spoke with a Saline County Commissioner a few weeks ago, and they have developed a plan to set up volunteer work with a couple of organizations for maintaining abandoned cemeteries. It would just be cutting weeds, sprouts etc, to make the grounds accessible. FAirville Baptist is 2nd on the list for work. Hope it works out....Told them I would help with donations, but they have no plan to solicit at this time.
I want to be sure the old cemetery isn't destroyed....don't know how to prevent that.
Believe either a relative of the Wright, Thompson, or Holland family farms around it now.

Lucy O Merritt
Hi Martin, Can't figure out how to send the documents I have, but Lucy's marriage to Richard R Merritt is recorded in Warren County Kentucky. The 1850 Census for LaFayette Co. MO connects her to my 3rd great grandfather Richard S Merritt, making her my 4th great grandmother. I'm still looking for possible connections to any of the other people buried in that cemetery.
Thanks, Kristy

Ambrose Haggard
Hello, I am looking for the place of burial of my great-grandfather Ambrose Haggard, who died at the age of 27 on 12 Mar 1879, probably in Saline Co, MO. There is a stone with no dates located in the Rose Valley Methodist Episcopal Cemetery for an Ambrose Haggard, assumed to be a baby, but other relatives of Ambrose are also buried there, including James Sanford Haggard and his wife Sarah (Sallie) Chinn Haggard (sister of Ambrose's wife Eliza Chinn); There is another Haggard named Glen there. I notice that you took a photo in 2012 of the sign at Rose Valley Cemetery and wonder if you would be able to take photos of the grave stones of Ambrose, James, Sarah and Glen for me if you happen to be near there. The sign you photographed says the cemetery opened in 1879. Ambrose died that year and apparently worked in Herndon, possibly at a molasses mill. (I would really like to find more out about this mill. I just found a notebook my g-grandfather kept shortly before his death.)

This is the memorial for Ambrose. Thank you in advance if you could help me:

Birth: unknown
Death: unknown

Baby, no dates on marker.

RE: Fairville Cemetery
Thanks, Marty. Al Hupp is the son of Virginia Hupp who still lives in the Stonehedge neighborhood in Marshall. Good people, founding fathers of the community. I would imagine she would try to help resolve the cemetery problem. Her daughter Nancy, lives with her.

Any idea how these things are handled?

I also contacted County Commissioner, Kile Guthrey. He's from that area of the county, I think.

Fairville Cemetery
Just noticed your name on a post of Fairville Cemetery. I have at least 3 ancestors buried there, and would like to know who is now in charge of or owner of the property.

I contacted the Saline Co Commission over a year ago about the severe neglect of the cemetery, and asked for assistance for getting help with upkeep, or permission for restoration work. Made some phone calls trying to get information on cemetery records to no avail. I assume authority lies with whoever is the trustee of record, but don't really know how it works.

Thought you might also have ancestors buried there, or some historical interest in Fairville. if you have any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks for your time,
Linda (Hutcherson) Simmons

Ballinger-Parsons Memorials
Good morning,
Re: Memorial #s: 137927356 (Martha J Ballinger); 46141319 (Isaac Sewell Parsons); 46141319 (Catherine Hill Parsons); 126078844 (Anna M Clutterbuck Parsons).
I realize only Martha J Ballinger has your ID attached, but the others are connected to her. It's possible I might have contributed to this mix-up as I seem to remember that I added Martha's maiden name & I do have Isaac & Catherine Parsons in my FT, although I never added Find A Grave records to Isaac, Catherine, or Flora, but if so I certainly apologize.
Martha J Ballinger and her husband John Henry Burruss are connected to the Parsons family, but as in-laws. Their son Joseph Franklin Burruss, Memorial # 137927390, married Flora Parsons, Memorial# 137927430.
I will contact others who added these Memorials with this same message, and post it publicly.
Again, I apologize for any part I may have played in publishing incorrect information.

Craig Hays Cemetary
Thank you so much for photographing the Craig-Hays cemetery. My 3rd great grandparents are buried there. I was heartbroken to see your recent photograph of it's sad condition. Just heartbroken. There remain just 9 adult descendants of Charles (that I know of). His surviving son, James, moved away from Saline County as did the care of this cemetery.
