Bio Photo I no longer make changes, additions, transfers from messages left on my contributor page. Please follow FindAGrave procedures by using the Edit tab on the memorial page to request changes, additions, request transfers, etc.

Thank you for following FindAGrave procedures.

Please ask permission before posting my personal family photographs, photographs I have taken of grave stones or biographical material I have written from my memorial pages on this site to Ancestry.com or any other website or personal webpages.

I follow FindAGrave guidelines for transfers of memorials:

Second, Transfer requests will be for direct relatives within four generations. This would be your siblings, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Please see FindAGrave Frequently Asked questions for more information:

How do I get a relative's memorial transferred to me?
First, Determine if you really need the memorial transferred to you for management. Transferring of management should only be requested If you have extensive changes to make to a memorial. You can add photos and suggest corrections without having to request management. Simply having someone in your family tree is not grounds for a management transfer request. With hundreds of thousands of contributors, we have many overlapping family trees and it would be impossible for all contributors to manage their entire tree.

Many thanks to everyone who has contributed information and photos for my memorials.

I see that both versions of last name could be Thoma or Thomi; that is probably where the record for her last name as Tommy was derived. I don't know where Margaret came from without seeing the original document.

Thank you for correcting on the Thoma and not Thomas.

Other documents name her as Mary Tommy Fowler.

I don't know where the "C" in her name came from without documentation. I was thinking her name could have been Mary Margaret Thomas.

RE: Sgt Thomas McGilton
I was using information from the NYS 1875 census, but after going back into Ancestry.com, I think you are right. The 1900 Federal census plus information from the ship Calhoun makes your estimate better than mine. Do you want to change the birth date for Thomas? I was at the West Point Cemetery a few years ago to take photos of my Leonard family ancestral burial sites. I wish I had known about Thomas McGilton back then as I would have taken photos of his family grave sites also. Thanks for contacting me about this.

Best Regards,
Lynn Sherwood

Wow, what a find. No wonder it didn't show on a search with the name misspelled.

I also found several newspaper articles, one as far away as Cleveland, OH.
Many thanks for the notification.

RE: Margaret Roses at West Point
They are not the same stone, although they are right next to each other. If you look at the photo of the stone for Margaret E. (132848581), you will see the stone for Margaret Alvina to the left. They both have the correct photos.
