Bio Photo I no longer make changes, additions, transfers from messages left on my contributor page. Please follow FindAGrave procedures by using the Edit tab on the memorial page to request changes, additions, request transfers, etc.

Thank you for following FindAGrave procedures.

Please ask permission before posting my personal family photographs, photographs I have taken of grave stones or biographical material I have written from my memorial pages on this site to or any other website or personal webpages.

I follow FindAGrave guidelines for transfers of memorials:

Second, Transfer requests will be for direct relatives within four generations. This would be your siblings, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Please see FindAGrave Frequently Asked questions for more information:

How do I get a relative's memorial transferred to me?
First, Determine if you really need the memorial transferred to you for management. Transferring of management should only be requested If you have extensive changes to make to a memorial. You can add photos and suggest corrections without having to request management. Simply having someone in your family tree is not grounds for a management transfer request. With hundreds of thousands of contributors, we have many overlapping family trees and it would be impossible for all contributors to manage their entire tree.

Many thanks to everyone who has contributed information and photos for my memorials.

RE: Sophie Garland Wolfe Carleton
Thanks so much for your follow-up message. Rather than having Sophie's first name removed, how about a simple note explaining why that is shown as her first name instead of Sophia as shown in the two articles (your reference to the name on her gravestone, Find A Grave's guidelines, the possibility of it being her nickname, etc.)? I think it would be good, instructive information.

I have seen many cases of nicknames being on gravestones as the only "first" name. I'm guilty of other Edits to show the full name and that name as a nickname. Guess I need to find the FAQ that explains all of that.

Just a thought,

PS. Re Forums, I am a member and have posted on "Ask the Community". Recently I have been active on "Cemetery Corrections". In fact, I have a posting to complete after this.

RE: Sophie Garland Wolfe Carleton
Thanks for explaining why you decline my edit. It's rare to be afforded the courtesy. Believe we've been down this road once before, but you have maintained her first name as Sophie. Problem is there are biographical entries from Oakland Daily Evening Tribune and Army And Navy Journal which give Sophia as her first name. You must have some reason for keeping Sophie when faced with the documented "Sophia". My bet is on Sophie as her nickname. Just say'n.

RE: Henrie Rixey Gibson
The following is from the book “The Rixey Genealogy” by Randoph Picton Rixey (1933) Pg. 169.
(1) Loula Henrie Rixey, called “Henrie”, born at “Bell Park, Culpeper County, Va. on July 2, 1898, is the youngest child of Charles Jones Rixey and Elizabeth A. Herndon Rixey. She attended Georgetown Visitation Convent and The Misses Eastman’s School, Washington, D. C. She was married at Portland, Oregon, on October 7, 1915, to Major Samuel Alexander Gibson, U.S. Army, born at Alturas, Calif. Major Gibson graduated from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y. in the Class of 1913. They have one child, Samuel Alexander Gibson, Jr. born at Washington D.C. , April 19, 1920. Major and Mrs. Gibson are living at Fort Howard, Maryland, where Major Gibson is now stationed. (1932)

(2) Lulu Henrie Rixie , called “Henrie” born September 15, 1861 was the second and youngest daughter in the family of Presley Morehead Rixey and Mary Frances Jones. Her middle name was for her uncle, Henry Bruington Jones, who died the day she was born. She died Feb 28, 1909 and is buried in Warrenton Cemetery, Warrenton, Fauquier Co., Virginia. She never married.
Her brother was Rear Admiral Presley Marion Rixey, US Naval Surgeon General in 1902 and was the personal physician for Presidents William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt.
Loula Henrie Rixey Gibson is the niece of Lulu Henrie Rixey .
I hope this helps in clearing up the “Henries”

RE: Philp Morrison
My source is a book, "The Rixey Genealogy" Pg 270 written by Rev. Randolph Picton Rixey and published in 1933. Rev. Rixey (1878-1932) was 2nd cousin of Philip Rainsford Morrison and knew the family.

The information in the book was obtained through personal knowledge, family Bibles, and correspondence with other family members.

I see that both versions of last name could be Thoma or Thomi; that is probably where the record for her last name as Tommy was derived. I don't know where Margaret came from without seeing the original document.

Thank you for correcting on the Thoma and not Thomas.

Other documents name her as Mary Tommy Fowler.

I don't know where the "C" in her name came from without documentation. I was thinking her name could have been Mary Margaret Thomas.

RE: Sgt Thomas McGilton
I was using information from the NYS 1875 census, but after going back into, I think you are right. The 1900 Federal census plus information from the ship Calhoun makes your estimate better than mine. Do you want to change the birth date for Thomas? I was at the West Point Cemetery a few years ago to take photos of my Leonard family ancestral burial sites. I wish I had known about Thomas McGilton back then as I would have taken photos of his family grave sites also. Thanks for contacting me about this.

Best Regards,
Lynn Sherwood
