M. Twain

I know not how to light the path of the future, but by the lamp of the past.

One should appreciate, or even study the past. It will always be there and grows larger every day. The study of time can be abstract. It does not need to be quantified or even orderly. Because it is all-encompassing, there is something for everyone.

I had added some whiny drivel here about the site removing photographs for months. Well, on March 23rd 537 of them magically reappeared. I confess not understanding and being well on the way to not caring. But that is not my nature.

My home is circa 1784. Its situation is such that it fell in the line of battle during the conflict between the States. When my father died, I was too early at the cemetery for the appointment concerning the necessary arrangements. To pass the time I paid a visit to the antique shop close by. Displayed there was a book which possessed a title that gave me the idea that my home may be mentioned within. Upon opening it, the pages fell directly to a description and photograph of my old place. It was not intended for the purpose, but the volume became a much worn field guide as I sought to visit and photograph other antebellum homes in the vicinity. I pursued that objective with interest and vigor. This caused me to notice the old churches en route and I began to photograph them. Behind the churches were cemeteries. Cemeteries that I found to be serene and sublime, full of lore. In turn they led me here and I stayed.

cemetery question
I was wondering if you could help me as I saw that you have taken photos in Wytheville.
I have a death record for a family member and I would like to add her memorial. Her record has listed Sherwood Abby Cemetery. It is not listed so obviously the name isn't correct. Would you have a guess as to what else it could be called?.

Thanks for being a Photo Volunteer!

Thanks for taking a picture of the marker for John Samuel Major at Southlawn Memorial Park in Prince George and adding it to Findagrave.

Also, thanks for letting me know his date of birth which I've added to his Memorial. Take it easy out in the cemeteries during the heat.

Selwyn Wood portrait
Just wondering where you found the picture of Selwyn Wood? His father founded my hometown of Crete, IL. I appreciate you posting his picture to findagrave.

Hey George!

Sorry for the late response, but thanks for that. I'm not too keen on the "Ride hard, die young" inscription, probably why he's in a grave.

Check this one out - the headstone photo is lousy, the wrought iron cut-out is really cool.

See you down the road...

Thanks so much... after Find a Grave send me back so may times the edit to add his parents with denied on it. I was so happy I did not get that yesterday and they put it on his Memorial. Now all of the brothers are linked. That is the first time that has ever happened to me when I tried to link parents. Thanks again, Betty Eheart
