Bio and Links
Bio Photo If you know of any one memorialized here who served aboard the USS Melvin DD-680 in the Pacific Theatre during WW II, please let me know.

I'm a transplanted New Englander. My parents are Paul Oscar Avery(1921-2003) and Betty Wheaton Avery(1925-1992). My mom's and aunt's interest in family history was passed to me. I have been doing family history research for over 25 years, most of which has been in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine.

I am retired, and live in The Villages, Florida, and would be happy to find and photograph cemetery stones of your friends or family in the Sumter - Lake - Marion County area.

If you find some pictures or monuments I haven't included, I'd love to hear from you when you post them. And corrections or additions to my postings are welcome. All suggestions are responded to within 48 hours unless I am out of town. If you supply me with additional information, I will always research and double check it before posting it to a memorial. There is simply too much inaccurate information out there. Please do not use the edit feature for 17th century memorials. Consideration of updates to these memorials requires correspondence with specific documentation.

I have completed projects on all cemeteries in Hawley, Buckland, Colrain, and Charlemont, Massachusetts. And another in Sears Cemetery in Barnstable County. Current projects include the Jenks Family in Rhode Island, the Groton Avery Family, and Shelburne, Franklin Co, Mass cemeteries. If any of my entries connects to your ancestors, let me know.

Memorials I have added in the last 7 days.
Memorials I have added in the last 30 days.
If I have not added any memorials in the last 30 days, I am very likely dead... contact Find A Grave.

Please use the EDIT button on the memorial to initiate correspondence and recommend updates. I am no longer able to respond to emails that do not provide quick and easy access to the memorial in question. Also, if your e-mail is not provided on your profile page, I won't be able to respond to you if a response is needed. The public messages are not appropriate for back and forth discussion. And, if you have no email, I will not process edits until you provide source data.

There are so many "orphan" memorials here on Find-A-Grave, many of which have been posted en masse and then forgotten. So many need identification and linking so we know who they were! After posting a memorial, please take the time to research, identify, and link the memorial properly..... it will go along way toward further establishing the credibility of this site.

Regarding transfers outside guidelines..... I will consider transfer to those who have a proven track record of collaboration on FindAGrave.

Newell Burying Ground
Hi Kevin
I live about 5 miles from Newell Burying Ground I gave the list of names to the man with all the records. He got back to me and the 3 graves you are looking for are not in his records. I reported a problem on Fanny Draper. But I though I would send you a message before I report a problem on the others. Let me know what you want to do.

RE: Elisa Jones
Out of curiosity, where did you find the nickname "Lizzie" for her?

RE: Elisa Jones
Hello Kevin,

I believe Hall is her birth name, and Jones is her adopted name. I am hoping that other message I sent to you has gone through, but perhaps not. I believe Elisa is the daughter of my third great-grandmother Rebecca Jane Orne and her second husband Charles Benjamin Hall. There is a birth record for Elisa, though it only lists her last name. It states that she was born to Rebecca J and Charles B Hall in Boston on Dec 7, 1855. Rebecca was unwell; to what degree, I am unsure. She was living in the Boston State Hospital as of the 1860 census. I do not know why her father did not keep her.

It occurred to me that the Joneses and the Ornes might be related, but I have been unable to find a connection. It seems that the Joneses at least knew the Halls, as they put their names on the child's death record, as well as an accurate age and place of birth.

Anyway, I thought the maiden name field seemed an appropriate place to list the child's birth name.

Thank you for your assistance,

George Finstad
I talked with the cemetery office and they do not have a record of George being buried there. They did say they had recently worked with the family on who all was buried in the family plot. If you find George buried in another local cemetery, let me know.

Thank you transferring the management rights for Barnabas Packard, III (#17463986) to me. That was very kind.

Good! I was amazed at how quickly it had been done! Then I figured you must be right there, at attention, ready for action!

thanks for always providing more clues and getting me to relook at memorials created awhile ago. It always adds more detail - now he has a death date, parents and kids I had no found before! Your contributions to Find A Grave will long be remembered and appreciated by generations to come!
all my best!

RE: Wife of Zechariah Field (Mary)
I meant to add too that I added your info on Christopher and Susanna at the bottom of Mary's bio and have given you credit for it.

RE: Wife of Zechariah Field (Mary)
Thanks Kevin... I have removed Stanley as her maiden name, because I agree that it isn't proven. I left the info in her bio to prevent edits in the future, without further proof. Their marriage record in the New England Marriages Prior to 1700, page 265, has her maiden name as Stanley, however, there is a question mark in front of it. Since the book is typed, it's hard to say if the person who indexed the original records added the Stanley according to their own belief or if they were unable to read the last name and were guessing that it was Stanley...
