I have been doing family history research for many years. I am a research junkie. I started the USGenWeb Tombstone Transcription Project is 1996 and ran it for many years, but I am no longer involved in that.

The Tombstone Transcription Project was a labor of love. I was moved to start this project after visiting ancestor's grave sites and seeing the condition of the older headstones. I knew that we needed a way to digitize these monuments so that they would last long after the the stones had eroded and the elements had destroyed the engraving. That Tombstone Project was born from that.

I have missed not doing this kind of work and saw getting involved with Find a Grave as a way to keep doing what I was doing before, just in a different way. I love old cemeteries. My children used to make fun of me a little when they were younger about going with me to these old cemeteries, but they enjoyed it too. As a result, we have a family who likes cemeteries and appreciates the sentiment and the history of the tombstones.

I was born in Spartanburg County, South Carolina and moved to Northern Virginia when I got married. My family research to date has centered on my maternal lines - THORN, THORNE, FOSTER, WINGO, TURNER, KIMBROUGH, MORELAND, GARNER, LEISTER, and HINES in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia. I am currently researching paternal lines - BROWN, JONES, SHERBERT - all in South Carolina.
