Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a niece of Lloyd "Pete" Herbert Hughes, who was a Medal of Honor Recipient. Researching his life has been an honor and a privilege. Here are his crew members of the "Ole Kickapoo."

I adopted the Bodan Cemetery in Pollok, Angelina County, Texas, USA because of the many relatives of mine who are buried there. About 40% of those buried there are related to me.

You have my permission to use the grave marker photographs I have uploaded in any genealogy project. They are not one-of-a-kind photographs. You certainly do not, however, have my permission to use my photographs of family members in some money making scheme. Don't laugh, it has already been tried - and stopped.

The transcription of the grave marker on any memorial is important. Please add them. If you have a problem with adding transcriptions of the grave marker, please take it up with Find A Grave. They have a field for it, they, and I, ask that you fill it.

I registered on Find A Grave on 9 Jul 2001 when there were "only" 2.5 million memorials. For some reason, I didn't create my first memorial until 29 Jul 2001.

Oops, I mistyped the birth and death dates. Rueben Leroy Slack was born 29 Aug. 1860/61 and died 07 Feb 1916. Sorry!

I was checking out some of my husband's family on find a grave. I am puzzled by the listing for a Robert Lee Slack that you say is buried in the Gann Cemetery in Lufkin, TX. The name is incorrect as this is my husband's grgrandfather. We live in Lufkin and my husband's father, grandfather, and grgrandfather are buried here. Rueben Leroy Slack was born (per family records) 29 Aug 1959 and died 07 Feb 1916, as you have the correct death date recorded. You have his correct father and mother, but not his name. I will need to go to the court house for the death certificate and make corrections if necessary. Rueben Leroy Slack's 3 living sons buried their father when 2 were in their teens and my husband's grandfather Arthur Cairrel Slack was about 24. Their mother had died 12 years earlier. It will be interesting to see who the informant was on the death certificate and if Rueben's name was possibly misunderstood.

The next item is a mystery because Ruben Leroy Slack is buried with the head stone R L Slack in the Whitehouse cemetery in Lufkin. I will make a trip out to the Gann Cemetery to see why you have him listed there. I know we all wish to make the proper corrections so I will get back with you when I visit the Gann Cemetery.

Thank you!
