That's me in my Kindergarten picture in 1954.|
I live in the high desert of San Bernardino County, CA and am married. I have two adult children, Annalisa and Keith and only one grandchild, my daughter's son, Mark Jr. I'd sure like more...hint, hint Keith...
I've always been interested in the past. I bought my first antique, a little china dog, when I was about 11.
In 1977, I started doing genealogical research. I acquired quite a bit of info before putting it aside and going to work. (My children were then in school) My research was relegated to trunk in the garage for about 27 years.
I had to stop work due to back problems in 2006. I started the research again to keep my mind agile and active. It's hard because I can only sit for 5-10 minute intervals before having to lay down. I do have the help (or is it hinderance?) of my keyboard-hopping, monitor-obscuring cat, Oreo.
During my research, I've found an illegitimate half-brother I never knew existed, (who was abandoned by his teenage mother) my grandmother's 3 million dollar inheritance that she and her second husband squandered, a conspiracy to defraud my grandfather's estate in exchange for ownership of a house, an elopement with the stable boy, the suicide of my uncle, who played trumpet in Phil Harris's band in Los Angeles in the 1930's, a kidnapping and my 4th great grandfather, who owned a tavern in Philadelphia in 1776, where it is said that part of the Declaration of Independence was written. The stories that are uncovered in genealogical research are truly amazing!
My goal is to complete an Obenland family tree tying all members in the United States together, plus their ancestors in Germany. At the same time, I'm building memorials here on Find A Grave.
Anyone out there having info on any Obenlands, (or families derived from Obenlands) please email me. And if you have pictures, all the better!!!!
I'm also looking for info on other lines in my family, such as Huston (from Maysville, KY), Bachmann (from Franklin County, IN), Lee (from New Jersey and Pennsylvania) and last, but not least, Malarkey. (also spelled Malarky, Mullarkey, etc) from Girardville, PA and Ireland.)
PICTURES: If you would like to use any pictures, etc. that I have added to Find A Grave, you MUST also include the caption. Please do not remove it! If the item doesn't have a caption, please do not copy it. I have spent many years and lots of money to acquire what I have put on this site. (Not to mention the effort it has taken.) Others have also contributed and I have credited them as I would like to be credited.
The rule is: Caption - Yes; No Caption - NO.

You are welcome! Thanks for putting it on!!
|CreatorOfSound||It a shame the condition of old cemeteries|
I was at Angelus Rosedale a couple of weeks back and outside of the overall lack of general upkeep (which isn't so much the cemeteries fault as it is the fact it's an old cemetery with not many new internments to generate revenue in which would help) there was a headstone with graffiti on it. I'm not an overly emotional person but I was kind of upset and sad even when I saw this, even though I didn't know the person who's headstone it was. So I understand your frustration as you were visiting your relatives grave and saw trash at Evergreen.

Came across it as I was researching Hollywood's Huston family.

Thanks very much! I am in the same boat. Haha!

Of course you can use the picture of Catherine Dean. I remember you from a few years ago, we e-mailed on Oberland or Bartenbach lines. Thank you for asking, no one ever has. I don't need recognition. I do this for my personal interest and fun. Can I ask you a question. Did you find any relatives living in Merced Co, CA in the 1920 or 30's. I have a postcard from a g-uncle looking for a cousin his mother Laura Bartenbach DiStefano told him about living there. Anthony DiStefano

|S. Bachmeyer||RE: Pictures|
I only added the photo of this memorial. I did not make any of the edits of the name nor did I add the spouse to this memorial. When I originally signed up for Find a Grave it was then understood that the creator of the memorial was the only one that could add or delete to the memorial, but that is no longer the case. Whoever made additions other than the photo of the stone, which is myself, is the person who created the mess with misinformation. Unlike some people, I am not running a race to see how many memorials I can list, I was only trying to help those that are valid genealogists looking for their family members.
|J.G.B.||RE: Patrick Sweeney Memorial|
All transcribed Sweeney names are currently up for St. Joseph/St. Mauritius Cemeteries, all are listed in St. Joseph's. I'll be happy to have a look next time up. Patrick is transcribed as having no dates. Also near or next to him is Alberta, no dates and James d. 5/30/1938, which has an F.O.A. marker and is not transcribed so it was probably added from a photo should there be one. I didn't look at it. Hope it helps.

|Joanne Gross Vaughn||RE: Whoops...|
Sorry I have no idea, I'm not related to them that I know of, but I know of someone that I can ask about it.
I'll be back with you on it.
|J.G.B.||RE: Patrick Sweeney Memorial|
It stands for Schuylkill Vital Records (Rice/Dellock), which can be found in any county library. If you can give me a lil time I can look tomorrow in the book for you and if you're not in any hurry you can put in a photo request and I'll have a look for you. I too am currently a bit under the weather. Have a good evening.
