Photographing Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, KY. Striving for accuracy in listing burials. 2,500 burials to go out of 48,000.

Now is easier to list what I still need to do.

THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN

Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where others cried
For loved ones whose lives are stilled.

Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.

Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.

Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.

Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.

Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.

Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

Thank you for adding his bio. I sent a short follow-up bio I forgot to add to the original edit request, sorry about that. If you could add it his memorial should be complete. Thank you again. Your hard work is appreciated.

Debbie, Thank you for the photo of Rachel's grave marker. I am helping a cousin find her lost relatives. You are doing such a wonderful job for so many of us who are unable to get to these cemeteries. Juanita Chrz

William Rigdon
Thank you so much for the photos for William. I did not know him but we both served in similar units. He was one of 68 men from A Troop 11th Cavalry (Blackhorses) that was killed in Vietnam. Soon I will have them all back together again where they belong and then my work will be done.

Thaddeus Grant (died 1921)
I moved him as you directed to Peach Grove. Was there any date of removal? His parents are at Aspen Grove in the Foster-Byrd Cemetery. I am wondering if his father moved Thaddeus there as his mother was buried there in 1918.
