Bio Photo As a newcomer to, I have found it very interesting and what a great way to remember loved ones. Look forward to memorializing as many of my relatives as I can.

It's kinda sad to walk through the cemeteries and see so many headstones with little or no inscription left, or the headstones have fallen over, are broken or completely gone. We need to record as much information as possible before it's gone forever.

I don't have a problem with you using any of the photos I take and post to your memorials for your other family history projects, just ask. If your going to use them for profit, then there is a problem.

It's amazing how a few people say that it's not about the number game when asked to have your relatives transfered to you and they refuse. If it's not so, then why don't they honor your request? I understood it's about helping others with their family history, but apparently that's not so !!!

When entering memorials, please check for correct dates and spelling of names to avoid creating duplicates...

Don't think of them as gone away
their journey's just begun
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one

Just think of them as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days or years

Think of how they must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away

And think of them as living
in the hearts of those they touched
for nothing loved is ever lost
and they were loved so much !!!!

Response to duplicate photos being posted
Hi Leo..

I got your message and from what I've been told by others, you can send a request to the person who posted the photos and ask them to remove them. There is no edit tab for that. I did so by clicking on their name as the person who posted the photos I want removed and left them a message on their findagrave profile page (like I'm doing right now) or by sending an email with the request to an email addy they have on their profile page. It's then in their hands to either remove the photos or just ignore your request to do so. There is no edit tab for doing this and it's a very time consuming process doing it. You would have to send them a list of the memorial numbers that you want the photos removed from and then keep going bac to check to see if they had removed them or not.

If you maintain the memorials, you can edit the order in which the photos appear on the memorials and move the duplicate photos to show up last on the memorials but that too is a very time consuming process if you have many memorials that you have to do that with.

Personally it doesn't matter to me who took the headstone photos. If theirs are better, I have no problem deleting photos that I had posted myself. I want the best possible photos as the ones posted on the memorials. The problem I have is when duplicate photos are posted that are not as good as the ones that were already there and those duplicate photos being their now fill all the available space allowed so that I can't posted other photos such as photos of the person that the memorial was created for. My feeling is that if I maintain the memorial then I should just be able to edit anything on that memorial which includes removing duplicate headstone photos placed there by others.

RE: Offerman Transfers
That's great....except for the elder Nicholas son...everyone is connected...

Knew you had nailed the right Maria...when she died in New Market....Sebastian Offerman was there at that time...

Maria must have married either in Iowa or her marriage record doesn't show up in the MN marriage records....guessing, she married in her husband's family was there...

If we get to the MN Historical society...will see, if I can track down any obits...

Peter Hoffelt (Son of Maria Offerman Hoffelt) used to run a bar on Robert Street in St. Paul...

Used to drive down Wabasha (where Maria lived)...when I went to work...

Have been to the St. Nicholas Cemetery in New Market...

You've done very well...connecting your roots...

RE: Offerman Transfers
Your very welcome....good catch on Maria...she fits into the puzzle perfectly...

I found a death notice for her...very limited...have added to her memorial...if you'd like to type it in...let me know....and will remove the article...

I did find a picture of Maria on ancestry...have sent a request to the add it to her memorial...sometimes that works...

It does appear...there was also a Nicholas Offerman born abt. 1838 in the least according to the 1860 census....

My ancestor line has a Nicholas and Nicolaus in the same family....they both ended be called "Nicholas" here in the USA....

RE: Offerman
That's what I found about her...looked again at the 1860 census...she is living with Sebastian and family in Dubuque county Iowa...but, she is listed as a "servant"...wondering if Maria and the youngest Nicolas might be a niece or nephew..? Can't ay, I've ever seen a child listed as a servant on a census...

That would explain the death certificate listing her father as:

Mary Burger
Event Type
Event Date
23 Oct 1921
Event Place
Waterloo, Black Hawk, Iowa, United States
Event Place (Original)
Birth Year (Estimated)
Father's Name
Anton Hoffman

RE: Offerman
Glad to known relation to the Offerman line...but, have a strong ancestral line in who knows...Ha..HA..

Found it interesting that Sebastain & Matthias & families were buried at the (Irish) Catholic Calvary cemetery....rather than the (German) Catholic St. Lawrence Cemetery....where most of the "Offerman's" are buried...

Strongly suspect that Sebastian Offerman's daughter (Maria) is this lady: Mary A (Offerman) Burger
BIRTH 10 JAN 1841 Germany
DEATH 23 OCT 1921 Waterloo, Black Hawk, Iowa
Finda Grave Memorial # 59088596
Mary Burger's death certificate lists Anton Hoffman as her father....informant was her son...since he spelled her maiden name wrong...guessing he got that wrong...?
Maybe an obit for her would give an answer...?

RE: Offerman
Hi Leo,

We were in the area and stopped in Faribault...checked the county records...there was a listing for Sebastian Offerman...but, none for his wife Catherine....kind of thinking, she probably died in a different county...

Checked the library for obits for Sebastian & his wife...none found...

Stopped at Calvary Cemetery...and according to the office records, Sebastian, Catherine, Matthias, Anna & an infant are buried there....

There is a "Offerman" memorial stone...but, no foot stones...have added pictures of the memorial to finda grave...

Matthias Offerman apparently owned a shoe store in Faribault...

Hope this helps..

Minnesota Offermans
Hi Leo, Not sure if I missed some sort of protocol but I see BJ responded to you but not me. BJ didn't mention where all the info posted for Sebastian and Katharina came from but there are some incorrect dates and no mention of Maria Offerman Hoffelt. I question BJ's burial location of Sebastian and wonder if they don't lie near New Market where Mary is buried with her husband Peter Hoffelt. Is BJ's cemetery listing with the badly mispelled Offerman a burial doc from Calvary Cem? BJ didn't provide info on sources. Originally I contacted him because I was curious about the Ship List which had no John but did have a first Offerman listng that looks like a Paul. I also have Johann's DOB as 1830 but Mathew was born in 1840, not 1830. The obit BJ used says he died in 1898 at 58 years old. Are you familiar with Dalby's Database? BJ's info reads like it is from that source. But I am curious about the where the other info like Sab's wedding info came from. Dick Offerman

RE: Offerman
Hi Leo,

Next time we are in Faribault...will look for a death record and see if there is an obit...

Have added some information to Sebastian Offerman's memorial # 172734304

Looks like Sebastain & family settled initially in
Dubuque, Iowa for 7 years...before coming to Faribault, MN. So...makes sense, that his son,John # 53582345, married and remained there...

We pretty much covered the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault...recorded all the "Offerman's" we could find...

Strongly suspect Sebastian & wife are in the Calvary Cemetery...just outside of Faribault...

Guess there is a lone tombstone with the name..."Offerman" on it...might try to see, if there are some foot stones covered with grass...foot stones really seem to sink in the area....found that out at the St. Lawrence Cemetery..depends on the weather....if we are able to do that...

Would think the "Offerman's" buried at St. Anthony Cemetery in Minneapolis (# 71489233) are connected...but, haven't found a connection...

RE: Marcellus Greene Photo
Wow! Amazing!

I've looked through other publications from Camp Breckinridge. I'm certain the one I posted is the only photo I have of him.

Thanks for your response.
