I currently live in Lancaster County, PA. I started researching my Family Tree in 2006. Greenwood Cemetery, Lancaster, PA was my first attempt of adding burial records to "Find a Grave". |
I completed my project at the Machpelah Cemetery in Lititz, PA in August 2009 by photographing all the readable Gravestones & doing a quick Obituary search at www.LancasterOnline.
I photographed all the readable gravestones in the St. James Cemetery in Lititz, PA in October 2013, after the cemetery was restored.
I now (as of March 2010) include FULL obituaries, as fellow "Find A Grave" contributors have convinced me to do so - if your name is listed in an obituary and you would like it removed or your name listed as "LIVING" please contact me and I will do so.
You have my permision to use my Gravestone pictures for personal use, post them at Free Web Sites, rootsweb.com or ancestry.com as long as you give me credit for the photograph.
I will transfer any memorial that is not related to me, include the persons name, memorial number and your member number - any requests MUST include your member number.
NOTE: Any requests that do not include the member number will be IGNORED, as it is time comsuming to have to do the additional step of looking up the number.
If you leave a correction for a memorial & I don't post it please email me again. If you do not want your name/Find A Grave member number listed with the correction please note that - otherwise I list it.
I will do Obituary Look Ups at the Lititz Public Library (weekly paper dates from 1877 - 2001 covering Lititz, Lancaster Co., PA) - I go about once a month. Please include the DOD and any information that will help - there is an Death/Obituary Index but it is a work in progress, years completed are 1877 - 1998 (as of Jan 2015), rest of the years are being worked on by volunteers and not all years are complete. I have found some obituaries that were not listed in the Index - Google Lititz, PA Public Library to get their up to date website address - click on "genealogy room" and then Obit/Death Index.
The Lititz (PA) newspapers, years 1877 - 1942 (spotty coverage of years 1914 - 1917) can now be viewed online at LancasterHistory.org
Other sites for obituaries/cemetery records in the area and USA are;
The website Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society (Obituary Index) - www.lmhs.org
Mennonite Church USA (full obituaries) around the United States - ww.mcusa-archives.org
website - www.pa-roots.com - Biographies, cemetery transcriptions, etc.
website - http://paperless.co.lancaster.pa.us/viewerportal/portal.asp?cc=true - Probate / Marriage Records of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania - requires Microsoft Internet Explorer. Mozilla Firefox won't work..
Lancaster County (PA) Digitalization Project - old newspapers, City Directories - http://www.lancastercountydigitizationproject.org/
Fulton County, PA - www.fultonhistory.org - Cemetery transcriptions, biographies, etc. also covers some of the surrounding counties.

Lancaster County Recorder of Deeds Web Site
I suggest creating a user account; I never tried the guest login.
Note: Under General Criteria, Search Type, select Individual.
Java Runtime Environment is required to view and print documents. A link is provided for the download.
The site gives access to public domain documents including but not limited to deeds, mortgages, and POAs. Deeds can be quite helpful. For example, if a grantor is deceased (the sale if from an estate or surviving spouse), the death date is usually listed.
Note: Lancaster County Public Library Card is required. I got mine from the Lititz Library (free). You need the card number to log in.
There are two ProQuest lnks. ProQuest ABI/INFORM is NOT the better resource. The second ProQuest link "Provides access to Lancaster newspapers only: Intelligencer Journal and New Era backfiles, combined Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era, and Sunday News . . . "
This archive goes back to 1995, good for obituaries (I believe that LancasterOnline goes back only to 2005), weddings, divorces, anniversary celebrations, police logs, and various other articles. Microsoft Internet Explorer is recommended but I use Firefox without problems. The only aggravation is an activity time limit. If you're inactive for awhile (1/2 hour?) you might have to re-login.

Thank you for the edit on Wilhelmina.
I'm not fond of searching the Scandinavian & Nordic names because of all the adaptations, but then add terrible handwriting and faulty transcriptions...and there's your nightmare!
Thanks again for your help.
|Willard Oplinger||Memorial # 72002605 for Peter Forney|
I wonder if you have an email for David Forney who supplied into and photos for this memorial. I notice that Peter's daughter, Barbara, married Christian Oblinger who is the son of my forefather, Claus Oplinger. I think the Forney family and the Oppliger families in Switzerland were connected through marriage, because a Nicolaus Oppliger married a daughter of a Barbara Farni. I hope David might be able to help me prove that.
Thank you for all your help with this family, your notes on each memorial answer alot of my questions. Keep up the good work!
