I have been doing family research now for about 3 years. I love the outdoors and walking through the old cemeteries. When I found out about the find a grave website. I just could not wait to start taking photos. There are a lot of old family and forgotten cemeteries around here in the valley that need to be recorded. A few have already been destroyed due to development. By taking the photos it may give someone else the information they need to tie up loose ends in their family project.

Family Surnames which I currently research are:
Mullineaux, Lux, Watterson, Wiliams, Mannella, Priester, Transue, Polliard, Mohney, Carothers, Kreutz and Zolinski(unsure of the name spelling birth cert. hard to read).

Marie Josephine Lux Miller

I am adding the information and photos for my hooks cousins and I would like to thank you for adding Marie. I added her photo and obit today and will add more soon.

I would however like to ask if you could transfer her to my account? I would like to add her typed obit to her bio (so that it's googleable) for her children and grandchildren, make her connections and add additional information.

Thank you in advance

Thomas Jefferson Bates
Here is some more information about TJ Bates oldest brother of my great grand mother, Matilda Bates Joines

Jeff Bates, eldest child of Asa and Caroline Bates, served as Sgt. of the 6th Alabama rifle regiment was captured at the first battle of Manasses, exchanged immediately, he served then as Lt. of the Girard artillery and later Captain in Waddell's battery. After the war, he founded Bates Bricks, which later became Bickerstaff Bricks.

Asa Bates
This is more info about my great, great grandfather whom you took a photo of his grave and did his write up I think. Maybe you could add this as he was an important early settler of Columbus.
Asa Bates was born in 1799 in Boston, MA. Trained as an engineer by the U. S. Army, he was sent to Columbus, GA in 1827 to organize a local company of militia for defense against the Creek Indians. Locals were not receptive, and he resigned his commission to stay and make a home with the girl he loved, Caroline Reed. There was plenty of work in a brand new town for an engineer. Among his many projects, he built the First Presbyterian Church in Columbus and the Opera House, both of which retain their outward appearances but had to be rebuilt inside after fires during the gaslight era. When the Creeks went to war, he was quickly elected to lead the Columbus Guards militia company, and was made Col. commanding the GA troops in the last Creek war. At different times, he served as Fire Chief, Police Chief, Sheriff, and County Commissioner in Muscogee county and Columbus. He raised 16 children at his residence in Girard, AL, where he at one time owned 6000 acres. Add Matilda Adelaid Bates as the youngest child
(1864-1942) She was my great grandmother and married James J Joines. She is buried in Westview cemetery in Atlanta, GA.

Nancy Mountain Bigham
Bruce, Thank you for posting my 3rd great grandmother's maiden name. I noticed that you photographed near all of the markers in David - Moon Cemetery, and that you had posted several unknown adult markers. I am looking for Nancy's oldest daughter's resting place. Her name is Margaret Jane (or Jane Margaret) Bigham Cunning. She died in 1837 and her name recorded Nancy's Will. I also noted that the David Dean family had several members buried there This family was well known to the Bigham's and Cunning's. All of the above burials appear among the earliest burials. Do you know of any old survey with the names of people buried in the cemetery and/or any article written about the cemetery's history? Those documents would be of great help to my research into these families. Any direction to location of these documents would be appreciated.
Thanks again for your postings..... Bill

I have been doing a lot of research to find him.

Thanks, Cindy
