My son, when asked what job his mother had, always said "She digs up dead guys". I guess that's what genealogy is all about!

Hello Nova Scotia!

I am researching a woman who reportedly married my great uncle, JOHN FREDERICK HEIMSOATH (Heimsath), who was born and raised in an orphange in Charleston, South Carolina. Her name was recorded as HARRIETT TUFTS from Halifax, Nova Scotia, born abt 1862. No marriage date has been found but a letter states that they were married by 1886 and he had to return from SC to NS because Harriett's mother was dying.

Canadian census records show that HARRIET was living with her family in Nova Scotia in 1871 and 1881. Her parents were GEORGE and LOUISA TUFTS.

The next census records that might be HARRIET was recorded in 1920 and 1930 in the United States in Providence, Rhode Island where she was working for a private family. It stated she immigrated in 1888from Nova Scotia but no immigration record has been found.

No where have I seen her name associated with my great-uncle. Did they actually ever marry? Were any children born to them?

JOHN FREDERICK HEIMSATH began sailing on ships as a cabin boy back in 1876 when he was 16 years old. Other than the letter stating he married HARRIETT from Halifax, NS -- there have been no other records found on him.

PLEASE -- if anyone can help out with this case I would be most appreciative!

Lewis Eben Nickerson/Martha Augusta Pender

I was looking in to the family of Lewis and Augusta and i am glad you uploaded some of their children. I have also seen online that you are related to them (i am not), so i figure you might be interested in knowing that a large family stone exists for them in Camp Hill Cemetery. The names of seven of their children who died young are listed on there: Bertha D., Bertram L., Ernest S., Ida W., Shirley E. (male), and Nina A. Della is also included in there. Apparently the they had 11 children in total.
