Hi Ellen. This is Ken Rainey. I have been away from Find A Grave for a long time and I would like to get back. If you have uncovered any new info about our family, maybe we could work something.

John Hamon Smith
Hi, I have been working this line for years! So, confusing as to his birthplace. I think part of it is that the states and counties were being reworked, thus confusion. John Hamon Smith is my husband great-grandfather. His life is through Virgil Lee Smith, John's youngest son. Our daughter was named after Victoria Jane Hackney. Her name was Victoria Lee Smith. We lost her at age 15 due to leukemia in 1982. Do you have Elisabeth Jemima (Frankie) SPROLES (Sproul)as John Hamon Smith's grandmother. I have had that name since 1966 (when I married my husband). Would love to find something about her and Isaac B. Smith.

Sharing roots,
Gloria L. Smith

RE: David D. Smith
Ellen, Sorry about the posting of David Dayton Smith with his Wife, Brothers and other Family members. I transferred the page to the person who has the posting for Laura Minta Moffatt (My Paternal 1st Cousin 3X removed - My Blood Line).

Linda has noted the issue on the site and I removed the picture. Again my apologies for causing this issue. ~ Jack

Ellen, The burial place for David D. Smith is becoming a "mystery". First I am not related to this family but posted the cemetery when the transcription & photos were given to me by the young man who restored & fenced the cem. in 2013. Again, looking back at my old notes on the Smith's, David Dayton Smith WAS a son of the old original John and Frances [Hamon] Smith from Russell Co., VA, who had a son (Rev.) John Hamon Smith. David Dayton being the youngest son of the elder John Smith. It would make sense for him to be buried at the Family Cem in Roane Co. but that is not what his death cert. indicates... His 1st wife Minnie Moffatt Smith is buried at the John Hamon Smith cem., while 2nd wife is buried at the Spring Hill Cem. in Charleston, WV...Mystery, mystery!!

Ellen: Looking at his death cert. again and doing a Google search; I find that Fletcher, WV is actually in Jackson Co., WV not Roane Co. So the memorial posted to the John Hamon Smith Cem. was wrongly placed by the original contributor.
Further his death cert. does say that his father was a John Smith [born in KY] while the Rev. John Hamon Smith family was from Virginia. Sorry to have dashed your hopes in finding your ancestor's burial place.

Ellen: I am not sure if David Dayton Smith is buried at this cemetery or not. His TS was not photographed when I did the other posts. The memorial was made by a contributor named (jackdowns61) and transferred to me since I posted the rest of the memorials for the cemetery. David D. Smith's Kanawha Co., WV death cert. #13866 indicates that he was buried at Family Cemetery at Fletcher, WV. Don't know if Fletcher and Vicars are considered as the same community or not. I will try to find out more on this & let you know. Linda

That would have come from these family trees on Rootsweb. Perhaps if you contacted the authors of those trees, somone could quote you the source.
