I am now a ninety three year old mother, grandmother, gr-grandmother, and a gr-gr-grandmother. On my 80th birthday my grandkids were ask to share what they remember about grandma. Because I realized they didn't know much about their ancestors, I decided to write down what I remembered of the stories that were told to me as I was growing up. That lead me to contact the Sequoia Genealogical Society. |
Volunteers taught me how to find more than 100 years of local family history from the Tulare City Libraries Genealogical Collection.
One volunteer, a retired school teacher taught me, fourth grade style, how to search the Internet on the computer. That year my daughter and grand children gave me a computer for Christmas, and I was off and flying and now I added Find a Grave to my activities.
I am now a self appointed family historian who has been doing research on my own extended family, and that of my friends,
Seen on another contributor's profile. I couldn't agree more.
We are the chosen. In each family, there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts, but instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the storytellers of the tribe.
I treat a memorial just like it were the actual cemetery, and I leave a flower or acknowledgment. When you visit one of my memorials please leave a flower. It is not necessary for you to say that you are a relation, but I appreciate it when you do.
Because of my age I would like to transfer some of my memorials. For many of them, I am not a direct descendant, and I prefer to transfer to direct descendants. There are a few occasions where I will make an exception. I will not make any transfers unless you leave a flower and a note.

Hi. I need clarification on the links to Charles and Hattie Smith as her parents that you sent. Mabel's obituary lists her children, William, Edward and Eileen. Those names are listed as grandchildren's names in the obituary of Julia Clements who is now linked as her mother. Perhaps there is another person with this name and also married to a Thomas England? I will wait before denying or changing your edits until I hear from you. Thanks!

I am doing Ellen Manuel's edits for her while she is ill. Please forward your sources for the following edits that you requested:
birth location of Hightowers, Caswell County, NC
death location of Cedar Grove, Orange County, NC
I can find no records listing her as Martha, please forward your source for Martha to be listed as her 1st name instead of Mattie.
Her maiden name was Jones and I will add that on her memorial page.

I'm sorry I can not find a stone for him. I have tried on several occasions and I know 2 others that have tried. There is just not a marker noted. I know the Al Death index places him in this cemetery even though he died in Decatur. I have written a message on the picture posted when you open it to let you know some information. Sorry.

FYI.... I have tried to find this stone before with no luck. To read a lot of the old stones in this cemetery depends of the direction of the sun for the day.
Got to go out that ways in a few days and will try to look again if someone has not claimed prior.

You are so welcome. We are always touched when we see the handmade markers.

Memorial 3289915 for Charles O. Baker - Just a note: ** This Charles Baker was born Feb. 17, 1837 His age at death as written on his head stone is ► 27 YEARS 2 MONTHS 25 DAYS ◄ He was not the husband of Malinda Higgenbotham and these were NOT his children.** Malinda was born in 1813 and her Charles born 1808. If you would please remove your "flower" and note by clicking on the uniform picture, then repost without the incorrect information... that would be greatly appreciated. We are trying to correct the many wrong Baker memorials we can. Thanks!!
